Alice Christine Collin

“It is another reason for us to celebrate, isn’t it?”

“Yeah I think so.  Anyway thank you so much, Ben. You are really awesome. Thank you.”

“You are just a great business woman, pretty, intelligent and very kind Associate Managing Director I’ve ever met, Alice. You deserve to have it.” I sighed.

“Do you think I really do?”

“Hey, of course. You always do great and you always make your parents proud of you.” Not sure about it.

“And you think I should just let go of my own dreams? And stick to where I am now?”

“This is about your writing career right? Alice, why don’t you talk to your mom and dad again and discuss about it? Now that you’re doing good enough, maybe they’ll allow you do what you really want. You can do it. Well you can be a writer and an associate managing director of your company at the same time.”

“Yeah you’re right, but just like what you’ve said I’m doing good in this meaning dad might not allow me and tell me I’m better here in the company.”

“No, Alice, just try talking to them about that, okay?”

“Yeah. Anyway thank you again, Ben, you’re really great. Thanks a lot.”

“Sure. We’ll have a dinner tonight okay? I’ll pick you up at seven o’clock this evening.”

“Yup. See you later. Bye.” I ended the call.

I got the papers on my table and started to read them again. This was just another day of my busy life. After college this had been my life, my house, my buddy─ the Collin Techno Company. And yet my own dream was still alive on my veins.

Suddenly I heard footsteps outside the room and someone opened the door.

“Dad…” I stood up and offered him a seat. “Take a seat.”

“Thank you, I’d like to congratulate you for another job well done Alice. You don’t know how grateful I am.”

“Thank you, Dad or Sir? Which do you prefer?” Then he laughed.

“I’m proud and I’m lucky to have an associate managing director like you, but I am more proud that I have a daughter like you.”

                “That was heart- touching.”

“And because you did another great thing, you deserve this.” Dad handed me a white envelope. I opened it with curiosity. I’d never had any reward from him since the day I started working on the company.

“This is a Europe trip ticket─ to France.” I said with questions in my head.

“Yes. That ticket will expire within one month if not used. So you have one month to set your things and go for a vacation, you need it. I hope you like it.”
