Beep. Beep. Beep.
I slowly open my eyes. Try at least but they flutter shut again. I take a deep breath in and enjoy the feeling of air in my lungs. I let the breath out with a long sigh."Lucy? Are you awake?"
A gloved hand runs over my forehead and settles on my right cheek. I finally open my eyes.
Josh is looking down at me. Scrubs and a mask. Even his hair is hidden under a hospital cap now.
I try to say hi but my throat is completely dry so I just lean my head into his hand. He strokes a finger over my cheek. Slowly I feel like coming back to reality and everything around me becomes clearer.
I can't make out a lot but I know that we're not in the room from earlier."We're in the surgery room. Stay calm, Patrick is in the middle of stitching your wounds. He already managed almost the half."
My eyes shoot downwards and I see Patrick. Also completely clothed in scrubs. His attention is directed onto my abdomen and he seems extremely concentrated.
"Do you feel any pain?"
My eyes go back to Josh.
"No."
I realize that I regained my voice.
"That's good. If you feel anything, even the slightest little pinch tell me immediately."
I simply nod. It's weird to see him like this. Like a surgeon straight out of Grey's Anatomy's. But not gonna lie, now that my attention isn't on the pain anymore I can concentrate on other things.
For example how hot he is now that he's putting the stethoscope on again. He props it into his ear and places the metal piece between his middle and index finger.
Then he places it on my chest- Wait. I realize that I'm wearing different clothes."Josh. Why am I wearing different clothes?"
"We had to change you. Pat unexpectedly told me that he might have to cut up one or two little places so we came into this room. It's more sterile. And your clothes needed to be sterile too. It was inevitable."
He places the metal piece over my heart and listens. Does that mean that Josh saw my breasts? Oh god that cannot be happening. He rearranges the metal piece. This is way too embarrassing.
A few seconds later he removes the stethoscope and lets it hang around his neck."Stop thinking about it so hard. Yes I saw your breasts, so what. I've seen some before."
He shrugs.
"Asshole."
By his eyes I can tell he is smiling. I give him a little smile back.
"Just a few more minutes then he'll be done. Just try to move as little as possible throughout the rest of it. After that we'll bandage it up, put you on new meds and get you out of this room."
I can't help it, a little tear escapes the side of my eye and flows down to my ear. It's a tear of relief.
Josh seems to understand as he only lifts a hand to gently brush it away.
I close my eyes and do as I'm being told.
I don't move while they finish the procedure together.
After 5 more minutes I hear something falling into a metal tray."Done. Let's do the bandaging."
A few more minutes follow in which they wrap several compresses and bandages around my whole stomach. Then Josh takes of his cap and shakes his head, his dark brown hair ruffled and beautiful.
I want to run a hand through it.
Josh removes a few further cords and stickers attached to my skin except for the EKG. Then he pushes me backwards and we're out on the hallway again."I'm taking you to one of the rooms here. They're not real hospital rooms but you know, they have the equipment and opportunities to functionary it into one."
"Okay. Do I have to stay?"
"Yes."
We come to a halt and I realize it's in front of an elevator.
"I'm staying with you. Pat still wants to do a few things like the ultrasound. But that can wait until tomorrow."
We enter and go up to the 2nd floor. Here the halls seem nicer, with a warmer atmosphere.
The room we enter is nice as well.
A huge bed, several cabinets on the wall but made out of wood. A window with velvet red curtains.
Josh takes off the coverage of the bed and reveals beddings.
He moves one arm under my back and one under my thighs.
Then lifts me up, careful not to hurt me.
When I touch the sheets I immediately sink into the comfortable mattress.
Josh hangs a bag up and attaches a new tube to my IV."This is primarily for the pain. The numbing is going to lose its effect soon. Your stomach should feel incredibly sore and it will hurt. But it should not hurt from the inside. No cramps and things like that."
I'm to exhausted to respond and struggle to keep my eyes open.
"Sleep Lucy. I'll be here next to you. I won't leave you alone."
He strokes my hair out of my face and caresses my cheek with his thumb. I lean into the touch and feel sleep overcoming me.
It's a deep, dark and welcoming sleep.————————————————————————————————————————-
Honestly, the more I write, the more I fall in love with Josh!
It's actually sad that he's just a book character...
But oh well, I'm sure there's guys out there like him!
Hope you guys liked this <3
