Sakura and Kakashi left for the mission, jumping over the tree branches. She was too occupied with her thoughts surrounding the indifference of Sasuke towards her feelings. She was questioning her willpower not being able to keep her emotions in check. Kakashi was well aware of her state of mind and somehow wanted to cheer her up.
"Taijo! What is your approach to this mission?", Kakashi asked.
"The village is about 3-4 hours travel from Konoha. We are still unclear of the real problem here, so our strategy will be decided once we reach there.", she replied in an extremely formal tone. It was so not her.
"Needless to say, Let's be cautious of our movement, as the cause of frequent deaths in that region is unknown!", she added.
"I'd be cautious and alert. But your mind seems to be diverted. Wanna talk about it?"
"No, I'm alright. Let's focus on the mission."
Kakashi gave her a concerned look. "But I know you're not okay, why are you holding it in?"
She suddenly stopped, "Sensei... Are you here only to look after me? Like I am a little child or something? ", She asked a bit irritated.
"Sakura..."
"Look, I am done crying over this... I am not that damsel in distress kind of person anymore. Okay? And you are the Hokage now... It's not your job anymore to cheer me up!"
"Sakura Listen! For one, I know you're no damsel in distress, I have seen your growth firsthand. Secondly... I am not here to wipe your tears or make you feel good. I am concerned because you said you might as well get used to Sasuke's indifference. Is that what you truly want?"
Sakura was stunned at her Sensei's outburst. She became quiet and looked at him with wide eyes. His question shook her very core. Does she truly want it?
"Because I don't want that for you", he continued. "I don't want you to lose happiness and live a compromised life. Why would you want it for yourself?"
"I don't know... I can't seem to move past it... I can't get him out of my heart. Believe me, I have tried!"
There was a silence, and then she continued, "Ever since I have known love that word has been synonymous with Sasuke for me. I have no idea how to not love him. Whether I want his indifference or not... I have no other option."
Kakashi sighed, a mixture of understanding and concern in his eyes. "Sakura, love is a complex thing, and it's not always easy to navigate. I know it's hard for you to let it go because loving Sasuke has become a part of your personality, it's a habit you won't forbid. I can understand how you feel, Letting him go feels like cheating on him, isn't it?"
Tears rolled down her cheek. It was indeed true. That is how she felt. And she was shocked to know that someone pierced so deep inside her and saw for what it truly was.
Sakura looked down, grappling with her emotions. "If I let him go, wouldn't that make me shallow inside? What is love, if it's not an endless faith towards the other person? And I feel that I am strong enough to have that faith throughout my life "
Kakashi gently placed a hand on her head. "You are strong, Sakura, crying or letting your emotions show does not mean you're weak. If we go by that logic, Naruto would be the weakest of all, don't you think?", She smiled a little.
He continued, "Sometimes... letting go is the bravest thing you can do." Her heart twitched on those words.
