No one knew exactly where those powerful creatures came from. No one knew exactly what bond they created with their riders. No one knew how they were domesticated. Nobody knew if everything they knew about these beings was a total lie created by them to deceive humans. No one knew the truth behind the dragons.

And as such, the dragons had an advantage over the riders who thought they were capable of taming them. They were dragons, children of the gods. Born from hell, enveloped in fire and death. Creatures much more intelligent than believed and beings of pure magic. Beings who chose those most worthy to allow them to ride on their backs. After all, they know things forbidden to humans.

For this reason, and as the only egg of the great Balerion, that little dragon, still enclosed in its egg, knew very well that its rider was about to arrive after many years. It could smell the soft scent of rain, mixed with the soft sea breeze and a bit of vanilla. It could feel his soft breathing. It could feel that unborn baby and knew that this was its rider, the one for whom it had waited so long.

And no dragon was going to take him away.
