*Third Person's POV*

"Did you hear?" Jennie asked softly.

Y/N nodded.

"I– I really didn't mean to overhear. I was already here... and just– I didn't want to come out and make things awkward. I... I am really very sorry." She stuttered.

"It's okay. I don't mind you hearing anything." The cat-eyed girl stated, standing close to the railing, facing away from her ex.

Y/N fidgeted.

"Are you... are you okay?" The tall girl questioned softly.

Jennie nodded.

Y/N could say she was far from okay. Though she didn't understand what was going on through the short girl, she could guess how overwhelming the conversation she had could have been.

"Do you mind... if I stay for some more minutes?"

The cat-eyed girl shook her head.

Y/N stood close to the short girl, watching the beautiful night sky and mesmerising view of the city the space offered.

"You know, Jennie... my Dad and Mom fight a lot." The tall girl began softly. "One time, they fought the day before my Mom's birthday. She was so pissed that she left home to stay with her friend. But in the morning, my Dad took me and drove there, picked her up, and he took her to all her favourite spots, bought her her favourite flowers, food and drinks, and they had endless... meaningless conversation." She paused. "I sat in the backseat of the car... watching them fall in love all over again. She smiled a lot that day, and no one could have said they fought. A few days later, I asked my Dad about this curiously. He said no matter how many days or how many times they fight, they never do that on each other's birthday." She titled her head to look at the cat-eyed girl. "Because... our birthday is the only day we have for ourselves, and we shouldn't cry on that day."

Jennie's eyes swelled as she remembered a birthday fourteen years ago.

2010.

[January 16, 11 PM...]

Jennie sat absent-mindedly in her room upstairs in the homestay.

It was her birthday, and she just missed her parents. Of course, they called and talked for a long, long time as well, but the little girl was still sad. She wanted someone to hold her and make her feel like she wasn't alone.

The little girl's thoughts were interrupted when she heard a rock hit the glass of her window. Jennie frowned. The voice came again. And again.

She climbed down the bed and opened the window, revealing her girlfriend outside the building, on the garden, waving at her.

"Y/N? What are you doing here?" Jennie whisper-yelled in surprise.

"I had to see you. Come out." Y/N whispered back.

"What? No way! I can't."

"Please? Please!!?" The tall girl whined.

Jennie sighed, and she saw no other way than to sneak out.

"Are you crazy? What are you doing here at this time?" The cat-eyed girl asked as she walked closer to her girlfriend.

"Here." Y/N smiled, holding a paper bag towards Jennie.

"What is this?"

"You said your mom used to make cookies for you on your birthday."

"Yeah. So?"

"So... it's cookies. For you." The tall girl smiled.

Jennie's eyes swelled. "Did you make this?"

"I, uh, tired. But miserably failed two times, so... my Mom did."

The cat-eyed girl bit her lips and hugged the tall girl. That moment, she was all Jennie needed, and Y/N held her closer, patting her back assuringly.

Eventually, Y/N felt the girl sob against her chest.

"Hey!" Y/N cooed, pulling away from the hug. "Don't cry. I hate seeing you cry." She whispered, wiping the tears with her thumb.

And Y/N proceeded to say the same story about her Mom and Dad to the young girl, who listened to every word she said with all the admiration in the world.

"So, no more tears on your birthday, okay?" The tall girl asked, bopping Jennie's nose playfully.

The cat-eyed girl chuckled, nodding.

"Happy birthday, Jen," Y/N whispered softly.

Jennie blushed and nodded again.

"Now, go inside. I am also leaving."

"How did you get here?" The short girl questioned.

"My cycle."

"What about your parents?"

"They went to bed early."

"Go back safe, okay?" Jennie pouted.

"Don't worry. You know your girlfriend could kick some real ass." Y/N said cockily, earning a punch on her shoulders. She chuckled. "Bye."

"Y/N, wait."

"Hmm?" The tall girl turned back.

The short girl walked closer, held the former's shoulders, and leaned in to place a kiss on Y/N's cheeks.

Both girls turned red furiously.

"I, uh, I, um, I... I will go." Y/N stuttered, running away quickly, and Jennie smiled, biting her lips.

Present.

Jennie's heart raced inside her chest as she stood facing the tall girl again.

Her heart was filling up with all the memories they shared, and she wondered if Y/N was feeling the same way.

Little did she know, the tall girl had no recollection of their moments together.

"So, no tears on your birthday, Jennie," Y/N said softly. "No one deserves that. Especially... not you." She whispered. "You deserve all the pretty things in the world. Like your smile... your eyes... the stars... the moon... this view." She glanced back at the night view in front of them briefly before looking back at Jennie.

The cat-eyed girl couldn't help but want to pull Y/N into a kiss. She wondered how her thin, soft lips would feel against hers. She wanted Y/N to hold her possessively and kiss her as if there was no tomorrow.

But something in her was holding her back, and it hurt. It hurt so badly. And before she realized it, tears started to fall down her feline orbs.

Y/N panicked.

"Jennie, what– what happened? What's wrong? Did I– did I say something–" Before she even finished the sentence, the short girl fell into her arms and hugged her tightly.

The tall girl's heart jumped to her throat, and she froze. But there was nothing more she could do than to hold the idol who felt so vulnerable against her. So she did. Y/N wrapped her hands around Jennie protectively and patted her back.

"It's okay. It's okay, Jen."

"Y/N?" Jennie abruptly pulled away, calling her name.

"Yeah?"

"Can you wish me again?" The idol asked cutely.

The tall girl smiled, cupping Jennie's face. "Happy birthday, Jen."

Jennie smiled. The most sincere and purest smile Y/N had seen in her smile. Y/N's heart skipped a beat. The short girl fell back into the former's arms, smiling against her chest.

Again, the tall girl was all her heart wanted.
