Chapter 21: Sorrow and Pain

Chris and Luna joined Dire, Kate and Humphrey on the evacuation. "Dad? Shouldn't we be helping Mom? Something bad could happen to her!" said Luna. Chris sighed. "I wish we could but you heard her. It's between her and her sister. As for Leo, your mom will save him but right now, we need to get somewhere safe and help everyone recover." said Chris as he held her shoulders. Luna sighed as she nodded and they would continue their march.

*Meanwhile deep in the forest*

Kayla was strolling through the forest with Leo tied up. "You know you won't win. My mom will defeat you when she finds me." he said. "Oh really? I have you in my possession. Your home is now burnt to ashes. What is there for me to lose?" asked Kayla. "Your a villain and villains always lose." said Leo. Angered, Kayla pulled Leo towards him, delivering a glare towards him. "That's how you talk to your aunt? Listen here. I am no villain, especially when your mother abandoned me. She took everything from me. Love and happiness. Now...I'm going to take everything from her." said Kayla as Leo was silent. Meanwhile, Carla was scavenging through the forest to find her son. "Where are you, Kayla?" she said as she sighed. 

*Flashback*

Moments after Leo was born, Carla looks at his newborn son, with a heartwarming smile. "You look beautiful." said Carla as Leo was sleeping. In the 10 years of Leo's life, Carla developed a strong bond with him. "I love you, Mom." said Leo. "I love you too, baby." said Carla as she kissed his forehead.

*Flashback end*

Carla smiled as she shed a tear. She then heard voices as she sneakily moved forward. She sees Kayla with a captured Leo. "Leo!!" shouted Carla as Kayla turned and ran off but Carla phased into her wolf form and gave chase. After a few minutes of chase, they stopped near the edge of the hill. "Don't come any closer!" said Kayla as she held a knife towards Leo. "Kayla. Let him go. You don't have to do this." said Carla. "Really? Well I have a reason to do this. You took everything from me. So now I'm taking everything from you." said Kayla. "My family and everyone else is safe from you." said Carla. "Oh no. This is the start of it. I needed to take my little nephew to lure only you away from your family." said Kayla as Carla's eyes widened. She looks down from the cliff and sees Chris, Luna and the Nightwolves moving between the cliffs. She realized that it was a trap. Carla looks back at Kayla, who pulls out a detonator and an explosion sets off. Chris looks up and sees the rocks collasping. "Everyone! To the fields! NOW!!" shouted Chris as they ran through. Chris ran when suddenly a rock bashed into him, hitting the wall. He recovered but when he tried to move, his arm got stuck. Luna turned and sees her father struggling. "Dad!!" shouted Luna as she ran to help him. "Luna! Get out!!" said Chris. "I'm not gonna leave you, Dad!" said Luna as she tried to move his arm. More rocks suddenly came down and blocked the entrance. "We're trapped!" said Luna. "Luna...you need to get out of here." said Chris. "No!" said Luna as she slowly shed tears. She attempted to use her powers but it fails. Carla watches in horror as she turns back to her sister. "Say goodbye to your family." said Kayla as she triggered a second dentonator. Chris looks up and sees the explosion as the flame slowly close in. He looks back at Luna, who was in his arms in tears. He tightly embraces her. Carla sees the explosion occur. "NO!!!" she shouted as she fell on her knees. Leo too stares in horror as he witnessed the explosion. Kayla evilly chuckled as Carla slowly glares at her and quickly charged towards her. Kayla throws Leo to the side as he lands on the ground. The two sisters would exchange punches. As Leo slowly recovered, Mei approached him. "Mei?" said Leo. "Shh! I'm getting you out of here." said Mei as she unties Leo. "Wait! I can't leave Mom." said Leo.

Carla would struggle against Kayla. "Seems like your struggling there, sister. Am I in your head?" she asked as Carla growled. She threw a punch but Kayla dodged and swings her knife to her midsection. Carla gasped in pain as she fell on her knees and held her stomach. "Mom!!" shouted Leo. Kayla then grabbed Carla by her throat. "Now that you suffered enough. "I'll put you out of your misery." said Kayla as she was about to kill her. "STOP!!" shouted a voice. Kayla turns and sees Carmen. "Mom...no." said Carla. "Well, well, if it isn't my mother." said Kayla. "Kayla...stop this madness. You've changed into someone your not." said Carmen. Kayla slowly walked towards her. "The reason I changed was because of you and Carla. You and Carla abandoned me." said Kayla with a glare. "Please...I want to speak to my daughter." said Carmen as she shed a tear. Carmen and Kayla came face to face. The two remained silent as Carmen hugs Kayla. She slowly returns the embrace. After a few seconds, the two seperated until suddenly Carmen gasped in pain as she looks down and sees the blade pierced in her midsection. "NOOO!!!!" shouted Carla. "Kayla......is gone. Only the Viperess." she said as she walks away, vanishing in the forest. "Grandma!!" shouted Leo as Mei immediately tends to Carmen. "It's okay! I can still stop the bleeding! Just give me some room." said Mei. "Mom? Mom! Stay with me." said Carla as Carmen looks at her. "Carla." she said before closing her eyes. Mei sighs deeply as she looks at Carla. "I'm so sorry." said Mei as she shed a tear. "MOM!!!" shouted Carla as she screamed in agony. Leo slowly cries as he hugs his bawling mother. Carla lost her husband, her daughter and now she lost her mother.
