i walked towards the now burning building which held memories i could not bear to make myself remember. but it wasn't the burning building that shattered my heart, it was who i found laying down on the floor, bleeding from head to toe, many doctors and polices taking him, i felt tears rush down my eyes, my hands shaking, my mind racing.
it was all my fault.
if i hadn't left him alone, all this wouldn't have happened. if i hadn't told him to stay at home, he wouldn't be in danger. if i could've just took him with me, he would've been safe.
my legs couldn't support me any longer, i collapsed to the floor on my knees and screamed both out of sadness and anger at myself. i saw a few people look at me with concerning and judgemental looks. but i didn't care. all i cared about was him. i couldn't do anything. i just watched as the people carried him onto the stretcher and into the ambulance.
before anymore tears flushed down my face, i got up to my knees and ran to the ambulance. i already left him once, i won't leave him again. never again.
