At an early age, Gus was used by other Hexside students to do jobs for them in exchange for being his "friend." His powers also tend to break out of his control and create illusions of his so-called "friends" making fun of him for being too gullible. Hence, the name "Uncontrollable Gus".

Many years later, he was seen in Hexside. After lunch, he spotted Flapjack, Hunter's Palisman. He chases the palisman into their auditorium, or much rather, their Paranormatorium, which is still under construction. He finds Hunter, the former Golden Guard. Hunter explains that he needs a place to crash temporarily. The speakers then call every student to the gym. Gus says that he still doesn't know what Hunter was doing there, but he offers him his sandwich, saying that too much Hex mix is bad for the stomach.

When the Students arrived in the gym, they met the head witch of the Illusion Coven, Adrian Graye Vernworthe. He tried to trick the students into getting illusion coven sigils by telling them that the sigils are fake and will serve as a protection against Belos and the Emperor's Coven. Gus finds out and stops Adrian and his guards before any student can get a sigil. Adrian grabs Gus and attempts to mark him with the Abomination Coven sigil to prevent him from doing and reading more Illusions. In the act of defending himself, Gus lost control of his powers, covering the whole school in a giant illusion. Luckily, Hunter rescues Gus from Adrian. Gus asks why he would do that, and Hunter answers that he wanted to pay him back for the sandwich.

They spent their time looking for the students. A few moments later, they bump into Willow, who was actually a coven guard in disguise. They manage to capture Gus and put Hunter to sleep. Hunter then wakes up with the students in the infirmary. He says that Gus needs to be rescued since he was captured. Willow believes him, and they all decide to rescue Gus.

The students fight the coven guards outside of the gym while Hunter tries to rescue Gus. When he entered the gym, he found Adrian sprawling on the floor, begging to stop, and Gus being surrounded by a Light Blue aura that acts as a trauma bubble. Hunter was a little affected by the trauma bubble that Gus created. Canonically, He managed to save Gus. But in the Bad Ending, Hunter couldn't resist and gives in, leaving Gus in that Glowing-eyes state.

He was found by the Bad End Friends when they were traveling the Demon Realm. They spot Gus in Hexside, trapped in his own Illusion. When Gus saw Inner Willow, Helos and Luz Azura, He immediately asked Commander Anne if he could come with them (Since he thought that they were the same people that he knew). Commander Anne knew that it was Gus who created the large Illusion, she was impressed and didn't want to miss the opportunity to recruit such a powerful person, So he accepted his request to be one of them.
