FINE LINE - HOLIDAY TROUBLES

Mavis hadn't a clue on how she managed to get back into the Honeydukes cellar, through the tunnel and into the castle once more. She wasn't sure if Harry was even with her.

All she knew was that the return trip seemed to take no time at all, and that she hardly noticed what she was doing, her head still pounding with the conversation she had just heard.

Why had nobody ever told her? Andromeda, Dora, Ted, Dumbledore, McGonagall, even Sirius. Why hadn't anyone ever mentioned the fact that she was related to Harry Potter? Why hadn't anyone mentioned that her mother was James Potter's sister?

Feeling conflicted with herself, Mavis wondered about what else everyone kept from her? What could she possibly not know?

Mavis was quiet all through dinner, so was Harry. She expected the same thoughts she had were running around inside his head too.

Ron and Hermione watched the two nervously, not daring to talk about what they'd overheard, mostly because Percy was sitting close by them but also because they didn't know what reaction they'd get from either Harry or Mavis.

When they went upstairs to the crowded common room, it was to find that Fred and George had set off half a dozen Dungbombs in a fit of end-of-term high spirits.

Harry, who didn't want Fred and George asking him whether he'd reached Hogsmeade or not, sneaked quietly up to the empty dormitory, and headed straight for bed.

Having the same idea, Mavis headed up to the girls dormitory too. She paced around the room, chest heaving with heavy breaths, hands in her hair, muttering things to herself.

Looking around the dormitory, Mavis scanned for a spare piece of parchment and her quill. Quickly finding the two she sat on her bed, back against the headboard, a book on her lap as a flat surface and began writing.

Dear Aunty,

I know I don't write to you often but I just have to know one thing. Is it true I'm related to Harry Potter? That my mother was his father's sister?

If so, why didn't you tell me? Why did you hide this from me? All of you? Why? What else are you keeping from me? What other secrets don't I know?

Why am I being left in the dark? Why -

"Mavis?" Hermione's voice said uncertainly, pushing the door ajar.

"Hmm?" Mavis replied, glancing up from her letter.

"Are you alright?" Hermione asked, walking in the room and closing the door behind her.

"I've been better," Mavis said with a tight lipped smile.

"I can imagine -" Hermione said, pausing as she didnt know what else to say.
