at lunch, malia, leo, chase, adam, bree, kaz, and oliver sat at their usual table, the chaos beginning before anyone even took a bite of their food.
"okay, hypothetical question," adam announced, setting his juice box down dramatically. "if we were all in a zombie apocalypse, who dies first?"
"you," malia said immediately, unwrapping her sandwich.
"wow. that was fast. why me?" adam gasped, clutching his chest.
"because you'd trip over air and get eaten before we even knew zombies were a thing," chase snorted, stealing a fry from kaz's tray.
"no, no, it's definitely kaz," bree argued. "he'd try to befriend the zombies."
"okay, rude!" kaz huffed, crossing his arms. "but also... fair."
"leo's surviving the longest," oliver pointed out. "he'd just climb a tree and wait it out."
leo smirked. "exactly. y'all would be running for your lives, and i'd be chilling up high, watching the chaos."
"nah, oliver's out second," malia said. "he'd get distracted and wander off."
"excuse me!" oliver protested. "i do not just wander off."
"dude, you got lost in the school hallway last week," bree reminded him, making everyone burst into laughter.
"that was one time!" oliver groaned, covering his face.
"okay, but for real, who's actually making it out alive?" oliver asked, pointing a fry at the group.
"malia," bree and kaz said at the same time.
"obviously," malia grinned, popping a chip in her mouth. "y'all would be toast without me."
"we should probably be concerned about how confident you are about surviving an apocalypse," chase muttered.
"nah," leo smirked, "we should just stick with her when it happens."
the group dissolved into more laughter, the debate continuing as they ate, completely unaware of the bell about to ring and cut their chaos short.

later that day, malia had just finished her private with riley before heading into group rehearsals with the rest of the girls.
abby didn't waste any time. she planted herself in front of the mirrors, arms crossed. "okay, let's talk about woodbridge, virginia. you're a 10th of a point loser. it's time to cowboy up here. the abby lee dance company is somebody to beat. they're not thrilled that they won. they're thrilled that they beat you. you need to challenge yourself so if your legs here find a girl in class whos leg is here and go stand next to her at the bar fight for that that's how you get better. you have to want to win more than i want it for you."
a few girls shifted uncomfortably as abby continued pacing. "now i wanna talk about this week we will be traveling to ohio," she said. the entire room groaned at once, already knowing what that meant. "we might see kendall. and we might see vivi-anne. all i know is that the abby lee dance company will be so hot that they will become apple pie in your group is going to be like the à la mode."
abby clapped her hands once, snapping them back into focus. "the name of the group dance is land unforgiven. it's about territory. we are going to cathy's territory. we're going to stick a steak right into that beef jerky everybody's standing before me is in the group dance however i'm going to bring a few ringers in just like the wicked witch of the west."
