I Say It's Up to Fate

Summary
Zedaph's coworker (and crush) has a ghost haunting her apartment. What's strange is that the ghost doesn't interact much except for when he's around. According to Pearl, the most it'll do is mess with things around her home. It events when he's around though, most likely due to how nervous he is around it. Perfect conditions for a first date, really.

Impulse is really bad at flirting.

Impulse jumped up at the sound of the doorbell, running to answer. The cold winter gusts nearly blew the door into the wall when he turned the handle, ushering three freezing teens inside after the last day of finals. He shoved the door shut before ice could accumulate inside, using some of his magic to temporarily seal it while he turned the lock. Behind him, Cleo and Joe were stomping the snow off their boots as Jevin shed his jacket and leaned over to brush the snow off his nearly-healed ankle.

"Hey kids!" Skizz called from the dining table, looking up from the raiju case he was still filling out. Filing deaths and cursed object usage with the company was always tedious and lengthy. It'd been over a month since the incident, and the institute had finally managed to confirm the use of the monkey paw. Usually, they were faster, but the lack of photo evidence had thrown a wrench in the system.

Scar looked up from his paints and waved, his fingers (and hands) covered in vibrant colour. Grian popped out of the kitchen with seven mugs hanging from his fingers and a pot of hot chocolate in his opposite hand.

"H- how and why," Skizz stammered, helping him set down the pile of ceramic. "How have you done this? Why did you do this?"

Grian snickered, taking a bag of marshmallows out of one sleeve and the whipped cream out of the other. "I don't like making multiple trips."

"You could've dropped them!"

"But I didn't!" Grian protested, pouring mugs of steaming hot cocoa after setting the toppings onto the tabletop. His wings puffed out in indignation, then folded neatly at his sides.

Scar grabbed one immediately, smearing bright evergreen on the mug and leaving a red handprint on the whipped cream. Grian groaned, grabbing the paint rag and wiping up the mess as the teens plopped down around the table and claimed their own mugs of chocolatey goodness.

Skizz's phone began to ring and he fumbled with it, swiping 'Accept' and bringing it to his ear. "Hey Zed!" he said enthusiastically. "How's it going today? Uh-huh. Yep, it's going great over here! Just finishing a report."

Skizz leaned forward, putting both elbows on the table and setting down his mug. "A ghost, you say? Oh, I see. Haunting a friend's apartment? Yeah, we can deal with that. When should we stop by?" Zedaph chattered on the other end as Skizz frowned, nodding along with whatever the blond was saying. "How about you come by after work today? We can clear things up and head out tonight. Okay, sounds good."

He hung up, turning off his phone and laying it face down on the table. "Zedaph's coming over this evening when he gets off his shift at the airport. He said he'd order dinner, so we don't have to worry about that."

"Hope it's not McDonalds," Grian grumbled good-naturedly, taking a long sip of hot chocolate.

"I still can't believe you," Jevin objected. "McDonalds is the best."

"I beg to differ," Grian griped. "I once found a burger that had to be at least two weeks old on the counter. That thing looked as good as new."

Jevin shrugged. "It still tastes good, you just need to warm it up a bit in the microwave. Our biology teacher told us that the bacteria on the burger gets killed by the radiation."
