Almost Normal (Editing)

Chapter two

JADE

Hands in my hair I dance to the beat of the music feeling the blood rush through my body. I felt a pair of hands slide into my hips and a body grind up behind mine. I look behind me to find a greasy darker haired male. Human. The sound of his pulse overpowering the sound of the music. When's the last time I fed? Fed on something fresh and not from a bag?

I turn around and drape my arms around his neck loosely, giving him a small smile. I lean in close and breathe in deep the human smell. I Caress the side of his face with my hand watching his pupils dialate. Perfect.

"Wanna get out of here?" I say.

He nodded eagerly as I grab his hand and lead the way outside. Everyone slowly created a path for us as I lead him outside in the alley way. Once outside I slammed his body into the building wall kissing him before moving my mouth towards his neck. Opening my mouth a little more I felt my fangs come out. Looking at him in the eye I command him to tilt his head and he does obediently.

Grazing my fangs against the soft skin I'm suddenly yanked back by a strong force. I see the back of another male slap the other back to consciousness.

"Stay the fuck away from her." He growls.

I watch the human scamper off in fear. The male turns around facing me his blue eyes meeting mine. Andrew. Of course.

"What the hell was that Jade?" He said arms crossed.

"None of your business Andrew." I hissed.

His demeanor softened slightly as he walked close and held my face looking into my eyes. The look of concern as he searched my face for answers.

"You're hungry again." He stated.

I merely nodded knowing that I couldn't argue with him. He sighed and rolled up his sleeve and before I could say no he bit into his wrist and held it up to my mouth. I drank not arguing, my instincts taking over. I've only drank from my brother a handful of times. We try to not make it into a habit knowing that vampires could get addicted and want to drink humans dry.

Which is why it's not so terrible I feed off my brother. He may be a werewolf, but he does have some vampire genes in him which helps him go around not smelling like dog. He yanks his arm back after a while and the skin slowly heals over the bite. Another plus for having a vampire mom. I wipe my mouth with the back of my hand feeling refreshed and new again.

"Jade that's the third time now you almost fed from a human. What's gotten into you?" Andrew asked.

"I knew what I was doing." I lied.

"Jade, I saw you. You hypnotized the poor kid. Hell you could've made him do anything you wanted."

"That doesn't mean I was going to feed off of him."

"Jade." He pleaded.

I stopped and turned around looking at my brother. He looked tired. Blue eyes hidden behind some shaggy dark brown hair. I also noticed how he was starting to get bags under his eyes.

"Have you not been sleeping?" I ask.

He shrugged putting his hands into his pockets walking past me. I followed him knowing the reason. We walked a bit in silence the only noise coming from the occasional party goer or homeless asking for money. I stared at the back of his head. It almost looks like dad, but with longer untamed hair.

Once we got to our neighborhood the smell of nicotine hit us both. Probably Andrew harder and we knew what that ment. The light to our front porch was on and our mother was sitting on the steps. At a closer look you could see the smudged mascara and her eyes still red around her irises. All of these signs that her and dad had another fight. He walked out and wouldn't be seen again for a week.

"Hey kids." She said her features softening when she saw us.

Andrew saw down and leaned against her, his head on her shoulder. I stopped to give her a comforting squeeze on her shoulder before walking in. I walked up the steps to my room and collapsed on my bed. Sun would be up in a couple hours and once it is I'd have to get ready for school. Human public school. Gotta blend in some how.

ANDREW

As soon as Jade went in and we were sure she went to bed my mom stubbed out her cigarette.

"How was she?" She asked.

"She took the poor kid into the alley. I stopped her before she even broke skin." I replied.

She cursed and pulled out another cigarette holding it in one hand and struggling to light it with the other. I took the lighter from her hand and lit it lighting myself one too.

"How many times must we go through this? I don't want a repeat of last time." She said.

"Is that what you and dad were fighting about?"

She laughed sarcastically and shook her head taking in a deep breath before blowing out rings of smoke.

"What your father and I were arguing about is none of your concern. Now go on up and get some rest. You have school tomorrow." She said taking my cigarette and crushing it before flicking it into the roses.

I gave her shoulder a quick squeeze and went inside leaving her to smoke alone. Eventually she'll stop and come inside. Eventually beginning a deep cleaning of the house as if a clean house will fix her problems.

I go upstairs and stop in front of Jade's room listening carefully. I hear him the steady breath of her sleeping so I leave her alone. I enter in my room across from hers and shut the door locking it also. I cross the room past the giant steel cage under a black sheet. I strip down and lay in bed staring up at the ceiling.  I look up through the skylight at the stars and start to count. Knowing that once I do sleep it won't be for long, I'll soon be woken up by nightmares. Nightmares of monsters. Monsters like me.
