JADE'S POV

I kept fading in and out of consciousness. My body woke up first in the ambulance, unsure of my surroundings but surrounded by strangers I lashed out. Going for the nearest person to me I grabbed their arm and bit, it drawing blood. I heard the paramedic scream and a needle plunge into my neck. I let go of the human's arm and fell back my eyes slowly closing as they strapped me down.

"Crazy bitch." I heard before falling back asleep.

I woke up next in the hall, doctors swarming around me. Talking about taking blood tests and seeing what kind of drugs I was on. I growled as one of the doctors leaned in to loom at my pupils. Struggling against the restraints I fought harder foaming at the mouth almost as they stared at me in fear. I felt another sharp pain in my neck and I was down once again.

I finally woke up to the sound of beeping steadily. As I slowly opened my eyes I was blinded by the fluorescent lighting. I blinked a few times until I was used to my surroundings. I looked around and saw I was in my own room. I looked down at the leather straps holding me down and my neck felt a little sore. There was a click as the doorknob unlatched and a doctor entered the room. I could tell he was a vampire because he didn't have that distinct human scent.

"Jade good to see you! You probably don't remember me because I was the one who helped deliver you and your brother. How much you've grown! How is she anyway? Your mother?" He said grinning.

"Why am I in restraints?" I said pulling against them in frustration.

"Well you did try to bite a few people. Succeeded with the paramedic. Don't worry you didn't change him, he would need to drink your blood in order to." He said as another click of the doorknob alerted us of someone else coming into the room.

A nurse in pink scrubs came in with a blood bag. My mouth watered at the sight. But not because of the blood bag, but her. Human. The doctor smiled and patted her head taking the bag and sending her on her way. He sniffed the bag and smiled before handing it to me. I bit through the plastic and drank eagerly. He waited until I was finished before taking the empty bag and putting it in the garbage.

"How do you work here?" I asked wiping my mouth feeling my body heal itself.

"Well I went to school of course." He said. "But that's probably not what you mean." He added pulling up a chair and sitting down.

"You're surrounded by temptation everyday. Old, young, all fresh blood. Yet you blend in. How do you do that?" I asked.

"It's not easy Jade. I'll admit it takes a lot of self restraint to do what I do, but I do it. Very well actually. You just have to learn discipline."

"Well... what if you can't control it? What if you end up killing someone and your hunger just gets stronger and stronger? What if you become a monster?"

"Breathe Jade. Just breathe. Has your mother not gone through this with you?"

"No. The woman lied to me for almost all my life about who I am." I then gave him a brief story about Angel and how she was out to get revenge on me.

"I won't lie, what you did was a terrible thing and I have no way of justifying murder, but I'd be lying if I said we all haven't done something similar if not the same before."

"...what do you mean?"

"Jade, I've been around for awhile. Long enough to see our kind give in to their instincts and cause mass killings or evolve and make the world a place were humans and vampires can soon coincide. If I'm right your mother wasn't as sophisticated as she is now."

"Well of course not. She married and slept with a werewolf."

"Because she was wild. She came from a family who lived by old traditions and refused to adapt. Your mom, Scarlett, however didn't want to follow in the same footsteps. She didn't want to hunt after humans, she wanted to be part of them. Unfortunately the closest she got to being human was marrying a werewolf and having you and your brother. Half breeds who wouldn't be accepted in either culture." He said taking a pause to look at the clock before continuing his story.

"Your mother tried to raise you well I'm sure, but because she couldn't go home or ask any of her family for help. She was a disgrace in their eyes for tarnishing the family blood with a werewolf. I mean now we don't have a feud with werewolves because we've put aside our differences and have learned to live with each other."

"But what does this have to do with me killing someone when I was younger?"

"Oh absolutely nothing. I was just telling that to you to stall you long enough for Angel to do her plan. Oops, I probably shouldn't have told you that." He said a sly grin coming to his face.

"What?!" I exclaimed pulling against the leather straps.

"You really shouldn't have sent Andrew home by himself Jade." He said getting up as the same nurse came in this time with a large needle.

"Now. We just need to subdue you one more time long enough for Angel to get here then my job is done." He said taking the needle.

I pulled free from the leather straps and grabbed the doctor's hand and plunging the needle in his own neck. I saw his eyes go wide before he fell to the floor. The nurse in pink scrubs screamed and lunged herself at me wrapping her arms around my neck and squeezing tight. I clawed at her arm and bit down hard until she let go, giving me the chance to run out. I was still in a hospital gown, but I didn't care.

"We have a code yellow. I repeat we have a code yellow." A male voice said over the intercom.

I looked around and saw group of people in white running down the hall towards me. So I ran towards them and when we got close I leaped up from the ground and over them. I didn't dare look behind me as I raced out of the hallway and skidded into another room. Panting I looked and saw it was an elderly woman in bed watching some tv. I could hear them running down the hall so I made a quick decision as I started looking at the window for a way out. Unfortunately there was no way to open it and nothing heavy enough to break it open so I did the next best thing. I hid in the bathroom.

I slipped in and looked around in the dark for something I could use as a weapon. Settling with the chair in the shower I held it in both hands as they entered the room. I heard muffled voices as they looked around. Then silence. I held my breath and saw the doorknob jiggle. I held the chair up high ready to swing, bracing myself for what's on the other side of the door. Once the door opened it was the old woman who was just lying down. I lowered the chair a little and she motioned me to come out. I looked around and saw that no one else was around. Empty aside from her and me.

"Thank you." I said and she just smiled walking over to a small dresser.

She pulled out a large fur coat, floppy hat, and a pair of slippers. Handing it to me I put on the clothes quickly and helped her back into bed. She held my hands in hers and smiled. I could hear her heartbeat start to get slower.

"I know what it's like to be scared." She said before closing her eyes and her heart slowing as she slipped into a deep sleep.

I pulled away and walked out of the room keeping my head down and hands in my pockets. I just made it to the exit when someone yelled, "HEY!" I turned around and saw the same group of people in white chasing after me. I ran again out the door and into the parking lot. I jiggled the handle of a few cars before one of them was left unlocked. I saw the keys left in the ignition so I started the car and drove off. I could see them standing there in the parking lot watching me go. I also saw the doctor standing there, slowly burning in the sun before going back inside. I let out a deep breath and made my way towards home. Hoping I wasn't too late.
