i sat grumpily next to billie, who was busy chatting it up with some people helping run the festival or whatever. how they could all talk so animatedly at 8am, i had no clue.
of course, billie had failed to mention to me that we'd be getting up so early until she had already woken me up. annoyed and stubborn, i hadn't bothered to get off the bed, letting billie dress me as best she could, until she warned me that she'd leave me behind by myself all day if i didn't get up.
i sighed dramatically and leaned heavily on billie's shoulder, but all she did was peck my forehead and wrap her arm around my waist before turning back to the conversation.
i whined quietly and kicked my feet, but she still didn't pay me any attention. i really hoped we didn't have to be here all day, because that would suck and i was already bored.
i perked up when billie said goodbye, watching eagerly as the men she'd been talking with walked away and she stood up.
billie smiled at me and stretched, winking.
"should we go and get some food, baby?" she offered, holding out her hand for me. i took it and hopped up. Finally!
"we'll have to come back later-" nooooo "but we're good until noon or so. we're meeting my parents at this local vegan restaurant." she chatted on while i just bounced along beside her as we walked out of the building into the private parking lot at the back, happy to be doing something even if i knew we had to come back later.
billie looked down at me, probably wondering about my lack of response. deciding i'd used my feet enough for now, i stopped and tugged on her sleeve.
she chuckled and stopped as well, looking back at me. she was smiling but clearly confused.
"gwen, baby, what do you want?" she laughed as my tugging got more insistent. getting frustrated, i whined and threw myself at her, burying my face into her shoulder.
"oh baby," billie sighed, rubbing my back comfortingly. "is someone sleepy?" she teased lightly, scooping me up under my thighs. i relaxed, content now that i'd gotten what i'd wanted.
"mm-mm," i insisted, humming into her shoulder. billie set me down in the passenger seat of he car and pecked my forehead.
"you sure? you look like you're gonna need a nap later, my love," although her tone was teasing, i knew she was serious. i whined and shook my head vigorously, kicking the space in front of me angrily.
"hey hey, enough of that," billie shook her head, now seated in the driver's seat and putting on her sunglasses. she placed her hand on my thigh and stared me down until i looked away and stopped kicking.
"there you go," she rubbed my thigh affectionately before focusing on getting us on the road. i glared sulkily out the window and refused to look at her.
we arrived at the restaurant and i stayed quiet the whole time, partially because i was tired and partially because i was grumpy. i glared at maggie when she asked me a question, which billie had quickly interrupted before it had lasted too long. i got the sense she was upset with me, which made me feel bad.
after we'd finished eating, billie suggested we go back to the hotel for a couple hours before we headed back to the festival. i offered a grunt which she took as a 'yes'.
when we arrived at the hotel, billie tried to pick me up again. annoyed and tired, i didn't appreciate this much.
"put me down!" i yelled, squirming. billie sighed and ignored me, tightening her hold on me to stop my squirming.
i continued to complain and yell on the way through the parkade to the elevator, until eventually i had started crying. billie said nothing until we were going up in the elevator.
she grabbed my chin gently and made me look at her. i was surprised to see nothing but softness in her eyes despite how frustrating i knew i was being.
"gwen, i know your tired and upset but i really don't think you want the whole hotel to hear you throwing a tantrum, hm?" she stroked my cheek softly with her thumb, wiping away my tears. i looked down and shook my head.
"okay. so can you quiet down for me, please? we're going to our hotel room and we have two hours for you to nap, alright, so just calm down," she said quietly, soothingly. it was hard to continue being grumpy when she spoke to me like this.
"don't wanna nap," i grumbled stubbornly. billie sighed.
"i know you don't baby, but that's what's happening. you'll feel so much better after, i promise." we were walking through the hallway to our room now. i hid my face in billie's shoulder as we passed a few people.
billie set me down on the bed in our hotel room. i hopped off almost immediately and went to fetch my phone, which she had just set down on the desk.
"nope," billie grabbed my waist and heaved me back onto the bed. i whined and kicked in frustration.
"i want my phone!" i pouted. billie shook her head, tugging my baggy jeans down and slipping on a pair of sweatpants instead.
"you don't need your phone right now, lovey. we're gonna take a nap," she said, turning her back on me as she changed.
that made me pause. "we?" i said curiously. if i was sleeping with billie, then that wouldn't be so bad.
"yep," billie said cheerfully, closing all the curtains then coming and laying on the bed next to me. "i'm sleepy too," she told me as she pulled me to lay on her chest.
"i guess nap is okay then," i mumbled, letting my tired eyes close and resting against her. billie combed her fingers through my hair soothingly, until before long i fell asleep.
okayyyyy i hate this part but on the bright side i decided not to end this book for a while longer
