yk the drill
"HEY, MUM-MUM!" Naomi said as she walked into the room her grandma was staying in. "Naomi! How have you been? Anything exciting happen?" Her grandmother asked, rolling her wheelchair over to give the girl a hug. "Eh.. just the usual middle school drama." The girl said, sitting down in a chair across from her grandma who raised an eyebrow. "Oh, come on! There's gotta be more to it than that! What about that Goldfarb boy you told me about last week? Whats going on with him?" The old lady pressed.
Naomi visited her grandma every week, and every week there was always something new to talk about. Thankfully, her grandma has an amazing memory so she remembered everything that Naomi told her- especially about her close friends and crushes.
"Uh.." Naomi sighed, playing with her fingers a bit before continuing. "Well, he kissed Lydia and now they're dating apparently. I was kinda close with Lydia but.. We aren't really.. on speaking terms right now." Her grandma nodded her head and smiled at Naomi.
"Don't ever let a boy get in between your friendships. Who's more important? Lydia or this boy who hasn't even talked to you until recently." Naomi looked up and nodded her head. "Lydia, definitely."
"Exactly! You wouldn't give away.. what? 3 or 4 years of friendship for a boy you've been talking to for a week or two?" Naomi giggled and shook her head. "Nah, I don't suppose thats a fair trade, is it?"
Her grandmother smiled at her and wheeled herself over to the window, admiring the view. "A little birdie told me that he was going to be here today- Andy." Naomi smiled and tilted her head, she loved when her grandmother tried to sound wise in situations like this. "You mean his grandmother told you?" "Yes- Didn't I say that?"
"Anyways. My point is, go talk to him. Try to find out whats really going on with him and Lydia. And then, once you know about their relationship for sure, fix whatevers broken with Lydia. Sound like a plan?" Naomi nodded and walked over to her grandma, giving her a hug. "Thank you- I must get my planning skills from you! Oh, this is for you."
Naomi pulled a bird watching book out of her backpack- with all the trees around the retirement home and how much her grandmother loved birds, it was the prefect gift for her. "Aww, thank you sweetie!" Her grandmother gave her a kiss on the cheek and then playfully shoved her towards the door. "Now get out of here, Go deal with your middle school drama!"
ANDY SCROLLED ON HIS PHONE, patiently waiting for his uber to pick him up. "Andy?" He looked up and spotted Naomi standing in front of him. "Oh- Naomi! Hey.." He said, stumbling over his words.
"Hey.." She responded, biting the inside of her mouth. "Uhm.. what're you doing here?" Naomi shrugged, pulling out her phone. "Visiting my grandma, you?" "Same. Hey, is that mine?" He asked, nodding towards Naomi's zipup.
The girl looked down at the hoodie for a few seconds before nodding her head and letting out a chuckle. "Oh, yea.. I guess it is. Do you want it back-?" Andy shook his head and smiled. "Nah, it looks better on you."
Naomi smiled back and nodded her head, looking down again. "Ight, thanks. So.. you and Lydia?" Andy sighed and shrugged, making eye contact with the girl. "I don't know.. I don't really like her like that- we kissed once and now everyone assumes we're dating." Naomi let out a scoff playfully rolled her eyes, "Well, coming out of the makeout closet and walking around with your arm around her shoulder doesn't really help your case."
Andy sighed and took a bite out of the basketball roll her was eating. "Yea but.. I dunno. Its just instinct for me at this point I guess." Naomi shook her head and giggled. "What? Kiss a girl, toy with her for a bit, leave em, and then on to the next?" Andy nodded his head and looked away from Naomi. "Basically.. Its just- no one at this school is any good." He turned his head back around, making eye contact with Naomi again.
"None of them are like you, Mimi." His voice was barely a above whisper and that one statement sent butterflies throughout Naomi's body.
"Naomi Baker!" Her voice spoke from her phone, making the girl get up. "Uh, That's me. I'll see you around?" She said, making Andy smile. "Yea.. Hey- do you wanna call later?"
Naomi shrugged and took one of the boys basketball rolls, "Maybe. But Goldfarb, if you want me, you gotta act like it." She told the boy before walking away, leaving him dumbfounded.a/n
