The beast of gevaudan

Pov Allison:

I'm sat in the canteen with Lydia and Luna, who was late to class this morning. Something is off about her, she is never late not even a single minute. I was telling them about my history project, the one about my family.

"The what of who?" Lydia asked me looking confused. "The beast of gevaudan. Listen... A quadrupes wolf like monster, prowling the auvergne and south dordogne areas of france during the year 1764 to 1767. Le bete killed over 100 people, Becoming so infamous that king Louis XV sent one of his best hunters to try and kill it." As I was reading the book to them Lydia interrupted. "Boring."

"Even the church eventually declared the monster a messenger of satan." I read on as Lydia complains again and Luna interrups too. "Shape shifting... man eating monster?" Luna asked me raising her eyebrows and I look down at my book to see exactly that. "How'd you know?" I ask but she shrugged, this girl is unbelievable.

"does any of this have to do with your family?" Lydia asked and if she had simply let me finish she'd know already. "It is believed that La Bete was finally trapped and killed by a renown hunter. His name was Argent."

"So your ancestors killed a big wolf. So what?"

"Not just a big wolf. Take a look at this picture. What does that look like to you?" I ask searching for the page with the picture showing it to them. "Lydia?" I said as she stared at it but said nothing. "Lydia" I say once again pulling her out of thought. "It looks like a big wolf. See you in history." Lydia got up and walked away, which was strange. "What's that all about?" I ask looking at Luna who was suprised too.

"I think she's still in her head about the incident, I don't know if i'm being honest. me and Lyds haven't really been talking much." I think she now realises what she said as she covers her face with her hands. "Why? what happened?"

"Oh uhm...You saw me the other day I was with derek, it's no big deal." She said but I know it's a lie. I know because she looks down at her hand fidgeting with her rings. "Okay... hey how'd you know about the book?" I ask not wanting to scare her away like Lydia, this is probably the first time she isn't trying to get ride of me. "Wild guess?"

"Come on, you clearly know it."

"I didn't read the book, at least I don't think so. Maybe I heard it somewhere before." I nod still finding it strange but also exciting that someone is actually interested. "do you maybe wanna help me with my project? I think even you would find it interesting."

"hmm, I don't know... I wouldn't want to be seen with the enemy. In fact I shouldn't be sitting with you right now." I can't lie her feeling that way made me feel Disappointed. "i'm kidding, you look like you've lost your puppy... I'll stop by tonight at 8 and then you can go full nerd mode on me."   I smile shaking my head, she can be quite convincing. I watch as she starts packing her things. "I actually was sorta serious... Wouldn't wanna be seen with a girl like you."

"promise you'll actually show?" I ask as i'm not sure about what's going on right now. Is she joking about wanting to help or is she serious, I can't tell. "of course." She says before leaving, of course not without looking at me dirty... She's unbelievable. 

The rest of the day seemed to go very slow. One thing was certain, Luna Made me make a fool of myself, as I told Lydia she was actually interested in the project... Well I was oh so wrong. She couldn't even show up to any of our classes after lunch, that's obviously her way of saying she didn't mean a word she said. 

Pov Luna: 

It's 8:20 and I just arrived at Allisons house, I know i'm late but I had to walk since mum won't allow me the car keys. I was about to knock on the door when it swung open and a person almost stepped into me. " Sorry, I was about to knock." I apologize quickly and the person laughs it off. "no totally my bad.. I'm Kate, you are?"
