Halen's POV:
My eyes fluttered open and the sun had just come up fully. I got up and changed from my sleepwear to a dress with a white top that was embroidered with bright colors and the bottom was a lovely sky blue. I put on a pair of shoes and practically bolted out the door. I had recognized his uniform, he was a peacekeeper. That was the first place I was going to look for him. I went down towards the barracks and my name was called, "Halen, hey, are you looking for Coryo?"
I turned and saw another peacekeeper but this one looked familiar, he was the one that pulled Coriolanus off of Ivar. "Yeah, do you know where he is?"
"Looking for you,"
I smiled faintly, "Do you know which way he went?"
"Towards the meadow, I think. He was asking where he could find you and everyone seemed to tell him there."
I smiled, "Thank you,"
He nodded and I walked quickly. I practically ran through town and made my way to the meadow. I went up the hill and made it to the clearing and there he was, he had his back to me but turned towards me with a sigh. He locked eyes with me and his expression changed. I couldn't help myself, I ran towards him and allowed him to take me into his arms, "Hey," he seemed to be taken by surprise.
"Hi," I replied, remaining in the hug.
"I-I was looking for you,"
"Well you found me," I replied and looked up at him, his hands rested on my back and mine were on his arms. My eyes landed on his lips, the bottom one had a cut on it from where he was hit last night.
"No, you found me," He said with a faint smile.
I took a step back but remained in his grasp with a smile, "Your hair, that uniform..."
He shook his head, "I thought you were dead,"
"I thought I was too, but I was more worried about you,"
"Me?" He questioned.
I nodded, "I thought something bad was going to happen to you. Your Dean Highbottom, he had them send me home,"
"Highbottom did?"
"Yeah, he put me on a train himself, and gave me some money. He told me they'd sent you to 8. I was going to leave this morning to go there, try and find you. But you're here, why are you here?"
"For breaking their rules, saving your life," He moved his hand to my cheek and gently brushed the hair off my face, "But I gave them my last cent so that I could come here to 12 because I had to find you,"
I faintly smiled up at him, the height difference was something I liked. Ivar and I were similar in height, but Coryo was nearly a foot taller than me. "Your Dean, he..." I paused, "He told me the strangest thing. He said he was glad that I survived you,"
"He told you what I did to that boy in the arena?" Coriolanus questioned. I nodded and he sighed, "I didn't have a choice,"
"But that little girl, Dill-"
"I know," He soothed and ran his thumb over my cheek gently.
"I thought it would be one of the others, maybe Coral-"
"Hey," He stopped me, "You are not a killer, Halen,"
"Yes, I am," I snapped but took my tone back down, "We both are now,"
His other hand was set on my face and they both ran over my skin gently, "You're safe,"
Coriolanus leaned in for a kiss but I hesitated and pulled back slightly. My eyes locked with his and I felt safe and secure. I closed my eyes and leaned into him, he connected our lips and it was the most passionately I had ever been kissed. Coriolanus continued to pull my body closer to his and it was the most magical moment to me. He was kissing me like his life depended on it and I never wanted this to end.
Unfortunately, the kiss ended prematurely because Carina was heard whistling. Coriolanus turned to see what was happening, I sighed upon seeing her hand signals, "Your peacekeeper friends, I'll handle this. They'll be here about the fight last night,"
I walked away from him but he called after me, "Hey, they can't see us together, not yet. I'm on thin ice already because I'm not supposed to be here,"
I nodded understandingly, "There's a lake out in the woods. Nobody knows much of it except us Covey. Meet me here tomorrow and we'll go. We can be free out there,"
He nodded as I walked away with Carina. I took off running towards where the peacekeepers would be waiting, "Ms. Storm, can we ask you a few questions about your show last night?"
"Sure thing,"
"Did anything to your understanding escalate because of the show itself?"
I shook my head, "Not at all, some guy was shoving his girl and the crowd didn't much appreciate that,"
"Could you identify any of the men that were involved?"
I thought for a moment, "No, I don't think I can, it all happened so quickly,"
They nodded, "Thank you for your time," They then walked away together, I watched Coriolanus walk back towards the barracks, our only farewell was a small smile that we both flashed at each other. I then went back up the hill and headed home with Carina, Coryo and I must have just missed paths this morning because the meadow I found him in was on the way to my house.
"So..." Carina started but never finished.
"So?" I questioned.
"Is he your boyfriend?"
I laughed lightly and shook my head, "No, he's not. He's just a friend. He saved my life, you know."
"I know, I just don't understand why there isn't something more,"
I shrugged, "You're smart, I'm sure you'll figure it out,"
"But I mean, you two were kissing,"
"Okay? And?"
Carina laughed as I felt my face heat up, "Friends don't kiss each other, especially not like that,"
"Are you telling me that you were watching?"
"Well I didn't want to interrupt the moment, but the moment was taking longer than I thought it would,"
I laughed and my face burned, "Oh my god, stop,"
"No, Halen, you have to understand something. He was kissing you like he was suffocating and you were oxygen,"
"I think you're exaggerating a bit,"
"No, not at all, he's all about you and you seem crazy for him. Why not make something happen?" She questioned.
"Maybe tomorrow," I replied.
"I'm going to hold you to that," She replied before snagging a fishing rod and heading to the lake. I sat back and sighed on the dock, I was keeping an eye on the younger Covey members while catching up on some missed sunlight. My mind was busy though on Coriolanus and how he looked so handsome with his buzzcut, I missed his curls but the buzzcut was incredibly attractive.
He never left my mind that day and I wasn't going to complain as I replayed that kiss over and over again in my mind for the rest of the day.
