Halen's POV:I smiled, "Well, I'm not made out of sugar," I stated before stepping out of the cabin. My heart was racing and I rushed down to the water letting the raindrops land on my face, I dropped the shovel and heaved for air. I just couldn't let him see me like this, not again...
I dropped to my knees and splashed some water on my face, I was having another panic attack. I didn't want Coriolanus to see me like this. The last thing I need is for him to see me as weak or something he needs to take care of. I just needed a moment to catch my breath.
Seeing those guns sent me straight back to the night Coriolanus killed Teagen. I was right back there feeling the same panic and fear that coursed through my entire body that night. Despite what others might have thought, it wasn't the request for the song that made me spiral, it was the death and the way that everything fell apart in a matter of moments.
I started to catch my breath so I stood up and started making my way back to the cabin when a hand was placed firmly around my mouth. I attempted to scream while the other hand wrapped around my waist. I was lifted from the ground and I was being taken further into the woods. My screams were muffled and I grabbed at trees to stop my attacker. I then bit at the hand covering my mouth and threw my elbow back into my attacker's head. I was released and made a run for it. "Coryo help!" I yelled but was tackled to the ground. "Get off!" I tried to fight but I couldn't get the weight off of me.
"You really thought you could get away?"
I recognized that voice, "Spruce?" He yanked me to my feet roughly and I lost my shawl in the process, "No-"
He smacked me, "Shut up, you're coming with me, Capitol boy is going to die for what he's done,"
"Coryo!" I yelled again but was smacked once more.
"I said shut up," He pulled out a knife and held it to my throat, "Don't make me kill you too," I stopped and kept my mouth shut, "Good, now come on," He moved me deeper into the woods and my heart rate picked up again.
"Hello?" I heard in the distance, it was Coriolanus, "Hey, did something happen? Because if something's happened we can talk about it." My heart sank, nothing had happened. He didn't do anything wrong when it came to me. "Are you hiding from me?" It was silent for a minute and then he screamed.
"What did you do to him?"
"He'll get what's coming to him," Spruce said and lowered the knife from my neck so I seized the opportunity.
"Coryo! Help! Coriolanus please!"
Spruce smacked me in the head with the non-sharp end of the knife and I yelped, it made me dizzy. He placed the blade back to my neck and I could feel it trying to tear into my neck. "Keep quiet, you can scream later,"
Sticks started breaking near our location. Spruce backed himself into a tree and kept me in front of him with the knife held to me. Coriolanus came into view, he held the same gun he killed Teagen in his hands. His white t-shirt was damp with rain and it stuck to his torso, his dog tags were secured around his neck, and he was looking through the scope of the gun, "You let her go right now and I'll let you walk away," Coriolanus stated.
"I don't think so, you got us into this mess, you get to die to get us out of it,"
"Fine, let her go then,"
"And be an open target for you? I don't think so, put that gun down,"
I shook my head, "Don't do it, Coryo,"
The knife went into my lower stomach, I screamed and then dropped to my knees. There was a gunshot and I looked up, Coriolanus dropped the gun and ran toward me. He put his hands over the wound and shook his head, "Hey, hey, you're okay," He pulled his uniform jacket from around his waist and wadded it up before placing it on my wound, "Hold your hands here and put pressure, okay?"
I tried to do as he said but I wasn't as strong as him. Coriolanus lifted me into his arms and started making our way back to District 12. I looked up at him, "I would never leave you," I whispered.
"What?"
"You asked if I was hiding from you,"
His expression dropped even more, "I-I know you wouldn't, I don't know why I questioned you, I'm sorry,"
I laughed lightly, "You better be,"
I started to feel pain in my lower abdomen now that my adrenaline had faded, "Just hold on, sweetheart," We were in the meadow now and I looked up at the sky, the rain had stopped and the sun was out. Things were starting to get foggy and my eyes were getting heavy, "No, stay awake, Halen,"
I opened my eyes and it was so bright, "Coryo?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you,"
"You what?"
I smiled faintly, "I love you, I meant that in the song,"
He shook his head, "I can't say it back, if I do, you'll close your eyes and I need you to stay awake,"
"You don't have to love me back," I said looking at his now blood-soaked t-shirt, "It's okay,"
"I do love you, but you have to keep fighting, you can't just give up now. Do you hear me?"
"You love me?"
"I do, I really do, Halen,"
I smiled, "I knew it,"
He kept looking down at me while quickening his pace. It hurt my stomach when he started running but I didn't tell him that, so I closed my eyes, "Hey, Halen! Keep your eyes open,"
I opened my eyes and looked at his features, "I don't wanna die, Coryo,"
"You're not going to die, I promise. Just hold on, we're almost there,"
"I-I can't," My eyes were too heavy and I was forced to close them. I could still hear Coriolanus for the next few moments. He yelled for me to wake up and he yelled for help but that was all I heard, my hearing cut out and I fell into the darkness.
I could see him though. His hand was extended and I reached for it, I took Kanan's hand and rejoiced that I would finally get to be with him again.
