I think it's an understatement to say that I'm out of shape. Every muscle on my body was in pain. A disgusting wetness on my neck and forehead dripped. This was torture. Absolute fucken torture. I paused for a moment to catch my breath. It didn't help. Every breath I took felt like swallowing needles. The only thing I could focus on besides the burning sensation was my anger as I watched Alex effortlessly run beside me.

"You have another lap."

"Fuck you," I gritted. My jaw clenched as I ran around the track. The air was cold and pierced my lungs. Why couldn't we run indoors? It probably wouldn't have made a difference in my performance, but anything would be better than running outside.

"Then we have sit-ups." He smirked. I had every urge to punch his face or have Fred do it. But I knew better than to go into a fight again, especially when he was testing me.

Alex finished his lap minutes before me. He waited with a small, conniving smile. The longer I stared at Alex, the worse my performance became. I focused all my energy on finishing the lap. The burning of my feet and thighs was almost unbearable. I had cursed Alex's name in every way possible. He nearly made Fred appear like an angel.

I could see Rei cheering on the sidelines from the corner of my eye. Miraculously, I managed to push through and finish the lap. My breath was rapid and uneven. The feeling of cold sweat dripped from my back, reminding me how much I fucken hate exercising.

"We have to work on your footwork and pacing," Alex commented as he handed me a water bottle. I took the bottle without a second thought and chugged it.

"Whatever." I managed to spit out. I was too exhausted to even argue with him. Rei made his way towards us with his famous, upbeat attitude.

"Time for the next exercise." Rei clapped his hands excitedly, then stopped. "Or not." His voice faltered as I flashed him a death glare.

"You gotta be fucken kidding me." I groaned. Alex kept his stoic expression, but his eyes revealed the truth. He was enjoying every minute of this. His similarities to Fred was unraveling.

"Nobody is joking. We're going to start on sit-ups," Alex answered as he walked to a different area on the field. My body screamed for an extra break, but my mentor was as ruthless as Rei had said.

"Let's go, shortcake," Alex called out, expecting me to hurry.

"The fuck you called Mw-" Rei wrapped an arm around my face, nearly strangling me. Fred cackled in the background. I figured he would help me, but I was wrong. He enjoyed my torment so much that he kept his distance and snickered.

"Actually, Megan sent me out to come get you. I'll keep count on her sit-ups. Scouts honor," Rei promised, lifting his hand up.

"What the hell does she want?" Alex glowered intently. I didn't understand the switch of tone, especially towards Rei. Initially, his friend appeared to be taken aback. Rei scratched his head awkwardly as if this was the first time he heard Alex speak this way.

"I don't know, Alex. Just hear her out, please. You and I know this can't continue, especially with MK in our squad." Rei pleaded, cuddling me tightly. I couldn't help but agree with him on talking to Megan. It was bad enough that I wedged myself in between their romantic issues, and now I will forever have to watch my back.

"Whatever, I'll be back soon. Fifty sit-ups..." Alex grumbled as he turned to leave. Rei released me from his grasp once he was further away.

"See, that's not so bad. Don't worry, I won't make you work." He grinned. The tension on my shoulder was gone. I could finally relax.
