ADVIKA'S POV

After I met Sam, I hurriedly headed towards the entrance of my college. That's where I usually catch a ride in an automobile to go back home.

I tried to signal the auto to stop by waving my hand, but it seemed like nobody was paying attention.

I started to feel frustrated and nervous, maybe even a little scared. After wasting ten minutes, finally, an auto driver stopped right in front of me.

"Bhaiya, Shanti Nagar," I said with hope, and he nodded positively. I smiled and quickly got settled in the back.

"Bhaiya, please be faster,"

I pleaded I really don't want to face that again. Feeling anxious, I started fighting with my scarf ends while biting my lips.

"I'm trying my best to drive fast, Madam,"

The auto driver replied with a little bit of frustration. I didn't say anything about what would happen if he stopped here and told me that he'd not go there.

After half an hour, I finally reached the front of my house. After handling his money, I started moving towards the house.

I didn't knock because it's always open during the day, so I moved inside without making any sound. When I entered the main door of my house, my eyes widened with shock.

I shivered, and my body got numb from seeing that person in front of me. I did not expect him at the house at this time.

He turned towards me, my breath hitched by looking at his angry face, but I tried to ignore everything and, with slow steps, started moving to my room when suddenly.

"Why are you late? Did your college time change?" He asked in a low but serious tone. I gulped and turned around to face his most dangerous expression.

"Papa, actually, I went to the cafe with my college friend," Somehow I managed to say in my scared, low voice, and while shattering with the words, he raised his right eye brows.

"Girl or boy?" He asked in a strict voice while clenching his jaw. I tightly closed my eyes; I didn't want to face him.

"She is a girl, papa," I murmured without thinking twice, as fast as I could.

But he was not looking satisfied with my reply, and that makes me more tensed each passing second feels like an hour to me.

I just stand there, not saying a word. Maybe it's because I'm too scared to speak up, but then I gather my courage and take a deep breath as I look up.

I see him clenching his teeth, and out of nowhere, he shouts so loudly that it shakes me to my core, startled. I take a few steps back.

"Again, if you're even a minute late, then you surely lost your chance to see your college again in your life. Mark my word, Advika,"

He said, sternly glaring at me, and suddenly, I felt a chill run down my spine as tears began to stream down my face. I quickly closed my eyes, hoping to stop them.

"Stop this nonsense and get lost,"

He uttered hatred in his voice, which can be clearly heard, which clutched my heart.

I made my way towards the stairs, and I started climbing up the stairs while carelessly wiping my tears that were not stopping flowing from my eyes.

I went inside my room, throwing my bag on the chair. I lost my senses and dropped my body on the bed. I dipped my face under the pillow and started sobbing.

"Why am I always me? They never loved me. Am I that useless for them that they cannot treat me like a daughter?" I murmured, talking with myself, still sobbing continuously.

"They're never going to accept me as their daughter; they'll never support my dream,"
I again murmured deeply, traumatised by everything they said each and every day, crying miserably.

"It's okay. I'll try my best to get out of all this, and then no one can stop you from achieving your dreams,"

I whispered, trying to console my poor heart with my strong words. I harshly wiped my tears and fixed my position on the bed by turning around.

After crying and sobbing for a long time, I thought about Sam he is the only one who loves me without being selfish.

I'm missing him a lot already. Thinking about all this, I didn't know when I drifted into sleep.

I opened my eyes, rubbing my red eyes because I was sobbing. I checked my alarm watch to see what time it was?.

It's 5 in the evening. I get up from the bed and make my way towards the bathroom. Standing before taking my clothes, I stand in front of the mirror.

I looked at myself, dried up tears in my red puffy eyes. I inhaled deeply. I took water in my palms and splashed it over my face.

I washed my face and changed my clothes into a lower and oversized t-shirt. I came out of the bathroom.

I came down stairs in the living room, where my father and my uncle were taking a sip of tea and my mother and aunt were serving them snacks, and they were watching the news.

They completely ignored my existence. I took a step forward to the kitchen, but suddenly, Jay (my brother) entered the living room.

While he had a tensed expression on his face, everyone turned towards the sound while everyone smiled and looked at him.

"My son, how are you? I haven't seen you for the past two days,"

My father asked softly, like his whole world belonged to him. Yes, Jay didn't come back in the past two days.

Father thinks he might be at his friend's house, but he never is. Jay sits beside him.

"I'm fine, papa, but-"

Jay muttered quietly and made a puppy face, thinking about something in his mind. He then lowered his head, and his father's expression turned tense.

"Papa, actually, I need some money to pay my tuition fees,"

He said it again, showing that he's the most innocent child in the world. Father gave him a warm smile that he never did for me.

"Okay, my son, how much do you want?" He asked, and Jay lifted his head.

"4000 rupees," he said, and he completely laid down on the sofa, grabbing a snack packet. I rolled my eyes. How can someone change their expression so quickly?

"4000 rupees for tuition don't you think that is so much for tuition fees?" He said being a little bit shocked was obviously too much.

"Actually, papa, I also have to buy some books, so why?"

He uttered again, suddenly showing his puppy face again—his drama, of course.

"Okay, tomorrow, come to the shop, and I will give you money,"

Father said without any hesitation in his voice and relaxed while again diverting his face towards the TV watching news.

I know that there are so many things that we don't know about Jay, but just because he is a boy, no one asked him what he was doing or where he was going. Is that not unfair? how parents even do that with their children.

I shook my head to distract my mind, and I went to the kitchen, where Dhriti (my cousin) was holding a book in her hand and roaming here and there without looking at anything. A small smile formed on my lips.

I placed my hand on her shoulder. She suddenly startled, and when she saw me, she exhaled deeply and got back to normal. She smiled and kissed my cheeks.

"What are you reading that makes you forget everything?" I asked her with a slight smile on my face.

She is the only one who makes me feel like I have someone in this house to call my family.

We're cousins, but we're like real sisters. She's in college, and my uncle and aunty's parents are exactly like my parents there's no difference between my parents and her.

"Nothing, just reading my romantic novel, makes me feel like I again fall in love with my fictional man," She said this dramatically, showing her excitement while giving a flying kiss to her fictional man.

I chuckled watching her, and she also chuckled with me. "Do you like to have a cup of tea?"

I asked her while placing the utensil on the gas stove.

"Of course you don't have to ask for that I'm always ready to have tea without," She said dramatically, hugging me from behind.

I slapped her hand playfully, she chuckled, and I started making tea. Yes,  me and Dhriti used to have tea or coffee alone; my mother and aunt don't even make it for us.

"What are you both doing here?" My mother said in a flat tone that I didn't turn back, still doing my work.

"We are making tea for us," I replied.

"Oh, btw, how did you get late from college?"

She asked in a serious voice, maybe to tease me more because she'd already gotten to know me without even asking me.

"Father didn't tell you that's how I got late today," I said, using the same tone as her, trying my best to control my frustration.

"Don't talk to me like that you have to answer me. I warn you, Advika, if I ever get to know that you are doing something that destroys our pride, then no one is worse than me,"

She said it loud enough that her voice definitely reached the living room as well.

I did not reply and completely ignored her warning because this has always been used for girls in this house.

I poured the tea into two cups, kept it on the tray, and started moving to our room without caring about her heated gaze that was fixed on my back.

I entered our room. Dhriti followed me and closed the door. After entering the room, we both got settled in bed, took our cups, and started taking a sip of tea.

"Sister, why don't you tell everything to Samrat Brother? He'll definitely understand your problem and support you,"

She said with concern in her voice. I looked at her and sadly smiled.

"I can't tell him he also has so many problems that I can't give him my problems as well," I said, turning my glance towards the outside of the window.

"But you both have to share everything with each other, and if you don't, that means you don't trust him," She said it in a serious voice while holding my face and turning towards her.

"I'm waiting for the right time," I said in a low voice.

"Don't think too much one day we'll be free and live our lives according to us no one can stop us. You'll become a famous Kathak teacher, and I'll become a successful fashion designer,"

She said it in her cheerful voice while taking my cup and placing it on the side table. She hugged me, and I reciprocated her hug.

I patted her back. I took a deep breath, Lord Mahadev, and each word became true. After some time, we released our hug and gave each other a sad smile.

"Now let's go otherwise, they will again start their taunting session for not working. Let's go before they come,"

She said she was making a pout, looking so cute. I smiled and gave a small nod.

Around 8 p.m., I and Dhriti made dinner for us, and they started having their dinner, thankfully without any drama.

But only men and women are serving them. After they finish, we also complete our dinner and get back to our room.

Moving inside our room, me and Dhriti share the room. Taking my phone from the side table, I throw myself in bed and sleep on my stomach.

I dialled his number without thinking twice only he could relax my mind. After two rings, he picked up the call.

Sam: "Hello, Avni,"

Hearing his voice, without knowing it, tears started flowing.
