Chapter 3

Dex's POV:

When I woke up, I was in a cold sweat. I sat up and looked around my room. Fitz wasn't there... I looked at my desk. The gadget I thought I showed Fitz laid half-together on my desk. I ran my hands over my face and into my hair.

It was a dream.

I sighed as I got out of bed and got dressed.

"HEY, SLOW DOWN, BEX!" I heard Rex shout as the triplets ran past my door. I opened it with a yawn and walked down the stairs for breakfast. My mom put a cup of Cinnacreme in front of me, and I took it absentmindedly. She gave me a worried look.

"Dex, are you feeling okay? You look tired," she told me while she reached for my forehead. I veered away from her touch and mumbled a small, "I'm fine."

That was a lie. I was tired. I was confused and disappointed. I wanted to tell Fitz about me being pregnant. My mom gave me a reassuring smile, and I returned it with a small smile.

"Rex, Bex, Lex, your father said you've been messing with his elixirs lately. What's that about?" my mom asked the triplets, who froze in their places with their food in mid-chew. I stared off into space and zoned off as my mom scolded the triplets. Before I knew it, I was light-leaping to Foxfire Academy. I suddenly felt nauseous and raced to the bathroom.

I ignored the concerned stares from people as I flung open the door to the bathroom and collapsed into a stall. Thankful that no one else was in there.

I threw up into the toilet as soon as my knees hit the ground. My eyes started to water. I was coughing soon and I didn't hear the bathroom door open.

"Dex?"

I quit my coughing for a moment to see who it was. Oh no...

Fitz.

He was the last person I wanted to come in. I whipped around and whipped my mouth with the sleeve of my tunic.

"Are- are you okay?" Fitz asked me, concerned. I choked back the rest of the vomit that was threatening to spew out. Fitz dropped his things and ran over to me. He dropped beside me and put his hand on my back. I felt the vomit rise in my throat, and I was unable to keep it back. I threw up in the toilet again with Fitz at my side. He rubbed my back and tried to soothe me. I just kept vomiting.

When I was finally done, it was at least the middle of our second classes.

"Fitz, I am so sorry for making you late," I apologized. Fitz shook his head as he helped me to the infirmary.

"It's fine. I don't mind," he told me, smiling. There was something I did need to ask him, though.

"Hey, did you come over to my house yesterday? Or did I ask you to?" I asked him. He looked at me.

"Yeah, you did, and I showed up. But, when I got to your room, you were passed out on your bed, sound asleep. I didn't want to wake you, so I left," Fitz answered. I immediately felt like a total jerk.

"Oh my god, I am so sorry. I didn't even realize I fell asleep," I groaned. Fitz only squeezed my shoulder and gave me a promising smile.

"You apologize too much. It's fine, really. All I really care about right now is that your health is okay," Fitz replied. Ugh, I know why he's acting like this. Alpha pheromones. Whenever their around an Omega, they act all lovesick and kind. There was no way to change it. We arrived at the infirmary. Elwin wasn't surprised when he saw Dex and Fitz.

"Oh, what happened this time? Explosion in alchemy?" Elwin asked as he set down a video of some light blue liquid. Fitz shook his head.

"I found Dex throwing up in the bathroom earlier today. I just wanna make sure he's okay," Fitz explained. Okay, way to go, Wonderboy. Good job explaining my dilemma. I wanted to jab Fitz in the stomach, but I was afraid of vomiting again. Elwin sighed.

"Alright then, Dex, come with me, and I'll take a look," Elwin told me. I hesitated. My gaze faltered from Elwin to Fitz, then to the ground. I didn't want anyone else to know.

"I-I'm fine, thank you," I answered, stepping backwards. Fitz looked confused.

"But-" he tried to reach for me but I held my hands back.

"No, no. I'm okay, I swear," I retorted as I pressed my back against the door.

"Fitz said you were vomiting, that doesn't sound like you're okay, Dex," Elwin stated. I started to feel uncomfortable. I felt my heart start to beat faster and I started hyperventilating. Fitz and Elwin's expressions changed from worried to guilty.

"Oh, no. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have forced you," Fitz backed away from me to give me space. Without me noticing, Elwin reached me and gently pealed me away from the door. He managed to set me on a chair before my breathing started to level out. Fitz looked angry at himself. Elwin knelt in front of me, his expression soft.

"Dex. Dex, look at me," Elwin said in a hushed voice. It managed to look him in the eyes. "Do you want Fitz to be in here while I give you a check up?" he added.

"N-no, I don't," I stammered. Elwin looked at Fitz. Then, back at me.

"Do you mind if I explain the situation to Fitz? Do you think you'll be able to stay here?" Elwin asked. I nodded. Elwin stood and made his way over to Fitz to escort him out of the room while explaining what was going on. At the door, Fitz nodded solemnly and walked away. My eyes were watery and my mouth was dry. I felt like I was going to vomit again. Elwin gave me a bright green elixir that shimmered and tasted like mallowmelt. Then, he broke out the spectacle he uses and flipped from one color to the next. He murmured something to himself and sat back in the chair he was sitting in.

"Dex, tell me. Have you had any... hos should I put this? Sexual activity lately?" Elwin questioned me. I was hesitant to answer but I eventually did.

"I-I have, yes."

"Well, that explains it," Elwin sighed. "Dex, do you know you're pregnant?" I nodded. I was at least a few weeks along by now.

"Elwin, please don't tell anyone... especially Fitz," I told him. Elwin chuckled slightly.

"So, he's the baby daddy, huh?" he asked. The edges of my mouth twitched to smile but I didn't let it.

"Yeah, he is. So, please don't tell him..." I informed him. Elwin gave me a reassuring smile and nodded.

"My lips are sealed."
