Fitz's POV:
Fitz opened the door of Rimeshire after a long day of work and walked in. He unclasped his cape and slung it over a hook. He sighed. The council was hounding him with work from not being there the week or so, but they let him off easy because Dex was miserably sick.
Elwin always did routine check-ups with Dex, checking his health as well as the baby's. So far, so good. If you could say that even after the illness.
Fitz set his shoes by the door, it was almost a routine now. Then he headed upstairs to see his fiancé. He practically did a happy dance while climbing the cool steps to their room. He wanted to see the light of his life. He turned the doorknob slowly to open it, in case Dex was sleeping, and peeked inside.
Dex was sitting in bed, good. He was looking at his sketchbook... oh, that's right, Fitz had made his own comments in the free spaces of the pages. He really hoped Dex wasn't mad at him for that.
Fitz braced himself as he watched... but Dex soon broke out into a smile and ran his hand along the page. Fitz let out a quiet breath of relief. Dex froze.
"Fitzory Avery Vacker. You can't hide from me," Dex seethed. His head turned towards the door slowly. Fitz's heart stopped and beat so fast at the same time. He pushed open the door.
"Hiiiiiii honey..." Fitz said. Dex cocked an eyebrow. He set his sketchbook aside.
"You know I knew you were home, right? I hear everything, deary." Dex closed his book gently and stared at Fitz with a knowing look in his eyes. Fitz rubbed the back of his neck and smiled.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. How are you feeling?" Fitz questioned, his tone going from sarcastic to gentle in two sentences. Dex's hunter eyes softened as his gaze looked out the window. Fitz knew what that meant.
He walked over and sat down next to Dex, rubbing his back and shoulders.
"I know it's hard, baby... you'll get through it... I know it's tough... I'm here to help," Fitz soothed as Dex wrapped his arms around his own torso and hugged himself.
"I just- I hate being stuck here and unable to get out and move around..." Dex told Fitz quietly. Fitz nodded. His hand came to a rest on Dex's stomach. He rubbed his back and got Dex to take some deep breaths.
"I know. It's okay, I'm here. You'll get better, I promise. Elwin, your parents, siblings, and I are here to help you feel better. You know that. We will do everything in our power to do so. You don't have to worry, love." Fitz paused. He had an idea. "Can I...?" He gestured something. He wanted to pick Dex up. Dex nodded.
In a swift motion, Fitz picked Dex up from the bed and carried him onto the balcony of their room. Once they were out there, Fitz settled the two of them against the railing. Not standing, sitting. Dex leaned back into Fitz's arms and looked at the sun setting in the sky, casting orange, red, and yellow hues over the land and sky. It was beautiful, really.
Rimeshire was starting to rub off of him, too. He was starting to like all the ice and snow. But... he still loved where Bramwell used to stand.
Now that he thought about it... he and Dex couldn't live with Juline and Kesler forever. Dex is almost 4 months along now.... they couldn't bear to be a burden any longer. They needed to find their own place.
"Fitz, look at how pretty the moon is..." Dex cooed. Fitz turned his attention to the sky. The moon really was a beautiful sight tonight.
Just like his fiancé.
