Math class already? Why? How? Do I really have to go and deal with Luke now? Especially after what happened earlier?
I sighed as I walked over to my assigned seat, behind which the blonde devil already sat, his feet up on the shelf under the chair. He loved to spite me, didn't he?
I plopped down in the seat, pulling out my Sharpie and doodling on my fingers. After a minute or two, warm breath tickled my neck, and my stomach erupted with those goddam butterflies.
"That's nice," he murmured in my ear, his hand coming up to play with my hair.
I simply rolled my eyes, set down the marker, and crossed my arms. "You done being a weirdo who always needs to be in my business?" I muttered in reply.
"I just complimented your art and that's what I get? Guess I'm never going to be nice again. Now you only get bad Luke," he growled, stealthily grazing his lips over my jaw. I shivered, closing my eyes. "So what was that about earlier?" he asked, a smirk in his voice.
I shook my head, opening my eyes again as the teacher entered the classroom. I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my desk so I was out of Luke's range. The rest of the class dragged on, and it was eventually over.
All too soon, however, chorale arrived and I was back to seeing Luke.
Upon entering the classroom, I found one of my favourite and one of my least favourite people both inside the room, chatting beside the piano.
"I'm impressed! You've got some great taste," Luke laughed, glancing over as he noticed me. "Hello Haylee," he grinned.
"Hi Haylee," Ms. Tessle smiled and I nodded as I went to sit down. "We were just talking about music we enjoyed. You and Luke have quite a bit in common, from what you've told me as well."
"Do we?" I said, feigning interest. "I'd love to talk about it with him some time," I smiled, though my eyes were glued to Luke and they told him that was a complete lie.
"I think I'll go sit now. Great talking to you Ms. Tessle," he said in that angelic tone, before ascending the steps to where I sat with my eyes closed and leaned back. "So, about earlier-" he started as he sat beside me.
"None of your business," I cut him off. "You shouldn't care anyway, since you obviously hate me..."
He was silent for a long time. I snuck a look at him through my eyelashes, finding him looking at his hands, which lie in his lap. "Yeah. That's it," he replied, trying to use the same cocky voice as usual, but not sounding quite the same. Was he really lying?
"Look, just don't worry about it. I can handle the Herd, got it? Just..." I paused, debating whether or not I save him the trouble of hooking up with one of them. "Be careful with them, 'kay? They're not called the Hoe Herd for nothing..."
"I'm sure I can handle them, little Haylee. I'm a big boy. I'm the one they should look out for," he assured me, picking up a lock of my hair and twisting it around his finger. I opened my eyes to glare at him, but he simply gave me that asshole grin he always did and kept at it.
Soon, Grace arrived. As I was sitting at the end of the row, she came up to Luke with a smile. "Scoot bub. Best friends get priority," she made a scooting motion. Luke just smiled, shaking his head as he moved down two seats, leaving one between himself and my Disney-clad saviour.
"Thank you," I whispered, leaning my head on her shoulder once she sat down.
"No need. I always sit next to you. And some tattooed, bipolar, sexy Aussie isn't going to change that," she giggled.
