<Haylee's POV>

I woke up the next morning to the incessant blare of my alarm clock and the pounding of a fist against my door.

"Haylee, I'm not telling you again! Get your ass out of bed right now or you'll be in big trouble!" The tone of my mother's voice was enough to make me bolt out of bed and throw the door open.

"I'm up! I'm up! Calm down mom," I groaned loudly, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. "Why are you yelling?"

"Your alarm has been going off for twenty minutes and you have to drive your brothers to school today, remember?" She placed a hand on her hip, raising an agitated eyebrow at me.

"Oh gosh... Yeah. I forgot. And I couldn't sleep last night so I didn't hear it," I nodded, leaning against the doorframe with my forehead against the wood.

"I have to go. I've got that meeting downtown that I can't be late for so you've got to get everyone out the door again," she explained. "Love you, I'll see you tonight, alright?"

"Sure. Love you too," I nodded and stood up straight again. As she made her way down the hall, I sighed and turned to go change. But as I did, a door opened across the way. I heard the floor creak slightly as someone padded toward me, someone who's footsteps I was beginning to know very well.

"What do you need Luke?" I asked as I went to my closet. I wasn't sure if I was annoyed or excited as he went and sat on the edge of my bed.

"So you didn't sleep much either?" He yawned, making me look over from where I was picking out what to wear. He scrubbed at his face, a soft scratching noise caused by his slight stubble.

"No," I replied after a moment and went back to the daily task of choosing clothes. "I take it you didn't either?"

"Not at all. My mind wouldn't calm down. I just stared up at the sky for a few hours thinking..." he mumbled.

I froze again, looking at my hands as they held two shirts apart. He was watching the stars too? What could he have been thinking about? I took a slow breath before nodding.

"Yeah? I was doing the same thing," I admitted with a chuckle.

He laughed shortly, his head bowed as I finally picked out my outfit. "Well, I have to change now so we can get to school..." I said awkwardly, waiting for him to stand. But he didn't.

"Alright," he shrugged.

"Which means you have to leave..." I raised an eyebrow and leaned against my desk.

He stood with a playful glint in his eyes and took a few steps toward me. "Or I could help," he grinned down at me.

I stood there for half a second imagining what that would be like before scowling. "Uh, no. I can change myself, thank you very much. I've had the ability for many years now," I rolled my eyes. "Now leave."

As he strutted out, he stretched his arms over his head, pulling up his shirt a bit to reveal his tanned back. "Don't act like you wouldn't enjoy it Haylee," he chuckled before leaving.

Scoffing, I shut the door behind him and stood there for a moment. What was with the sudden mood change? Yesterday he was so sweet and now it was back to the other Luke. The one I hated. The one I wish he wouldn't act like because now that I've experienced the other Luke I don't want this one back.

Changing into my favorite black shorts and a thin maroon sweater over a camisole, I grabbed a pair of flip flops and put on my minimal makeup before heading downstairs. The boys were all sitting at the table eating but Luke, who wasn't downstairs yet.
