What if we got to see hurrem and Gülnihal's goodbye

Hurrem felt like the air had left her, her once bright smile fading as a frown took it's place, her eyes narrowed in confusion. Was this how the valide solved a crime? By punishing the victim and ignoring the clear suspects.

Hurrem had tried to make her see reason, but the elder woman refused to even let her how a say, as if the person she was sending away wasn't her most closest companion and most trusted for her children.

It seemed as if it was planned, she had not been told on purpose she suspected as she made her way to the physician's section of the palace. The valide had granted her permission to speak to her long time friend one final time.

She stood outside the door, trying to catch her breath. Running a hand through her hair she attempted to rid any signs of distress, after a few minutes she planted a smile on her face and entered the rooms. She would put on a joyful scene and act as if she wasn't upset over the decision, after all shr had good practice in that department.

The room was mostly empty, only two physicians and her dear friend occupied the area. Her brunette haired friend had changed into a red and white dress with her freshly cleaned hair pulled into a braide. She looked lovely hurrem thought with a sound smile, but then she realised that this would be the final time she would be able to speak to her. A final goodbye, with no promises of what the future would bring.

Slowly she crept towards her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, the brunette jolted in shock but smiled once she saw her red haired friend, turning herself around she took the other women's hands in hers and gave them a tight squeeze, as if to reassure her.

" My dear friend, I'm so happy to see you are well once more"

The woman smiled and kissed her hands, a sign of affection she often displayed. To others it would look like submittion but to them it was a showcase of love and affection. Either way it worked.

" Thanks to you I got the best treatment, or who would care for a minor concubine..."

The rose haired woman didn't allow her to finish the sentence, with one look she silenced her. Gülnihal after her marriage would be a free woman, whilst hurrem remind the same; with or without her children

" I only wish you and I had more time together, it's selfish I know but I do not wish for you to leave. I'm scared of you leaving. Who would I turn to"?

" You have plenty of people, many loyal servents and do not forget Esme and nigar kalfa"

Ah yes, esma hatun and nigar kalfa. The two women were kind but they were not Gülnihal. Gülnihal who had defended her since the first interaction. She didn't have to, they didn't even know eachother. But she did without asking for anything in turn.

And how did hurrem repay her? By burning her face, such a cruel act towards a loving soul. Yet even after all that, her dear friend still accompanied her into exil and then nearly into self - banishment. She stayed through every tantrum and comforted her through every nightmare. Her friend, more like sister.

Just thinking about it made tears leak from her eyes, she chocked back sobs trying to remind calm. She had promised herself that she would cry alone but not in front of the woman who was about to leave. She didn't want her to leave concerned or upset.

It wasn't until she felt soft hands wip away the tears that she re - entered reality. She saw Gülnihal looking worried, her brown eyes soft and welcoming. The same brown eyes that comforted her through the horrors of her sleepless nights. She would miss them.

In a moment of weakness, she pulled the woman into a strong hug, not caring if she looked pathetic or weak. Her lips moved without her even realising, the words coming out without the need to think.

" Don't leave, stay with me. I'll speak to the sultan! He will understand" or so she hoped, but deep down she knew it was a lost cause. The choices were already made.

Gülnihal only gave a small smile, sad and broken. It spoke more than words ever could. As she stared into her eyes she understood. They had both made mistakes, even if unknowingly. Both didn't want to separate from each other but had no choice in the matter. So both reluctantly accepted it. But neither would admit this out loud, that would make it hurt more.

time was running out and hurrem had things she wanted to say, to let out. This would be her only chance after all

" Gülnihal, I..I would like to.."

This time it was the brunette who cut her off, her eyes mirroring the red heads. But teary, but unlike hurrem she didn't have a wet face just yet.

" Forget about it, besides why remember it now when I have not thought about it in years" with that she was pulled into another fierce hug. A hug that felt warm and peaceful, such peace.

They pulled away from each other and hurrem wiped away her tears, both looking more composed than before.

" The valide has arranged for a carriage to take me to Edirne, I'll have to leave soon " she said, breaking the silence.

The sultana just smiled stiffly as they said a final goodbye, she watched as she took her belongings and the gift that hurrem had given her a few days prior. It was a locket made of small rubies and sapphire.

She watched as her friend kissed her cheek, and gave her a final hug. This one shorter than before but much more tighter. As if she did not want to leave nor separate. But they had no choice, they had no choice in anything.

As the Brunette was leaving, she stopped. Tuning around she looked at her best friend one final time and spoke in a soft but serious voice

" Do take care of yourself, I won't be here to help you any longer"

Hurrem only managed a small but clear enough laugh. Her cheeks hurt from how wide she was smiling but she nodded her head anyway.

" You as well my friend, lead a good life and try not to forget me"

The brunette scoffed, saying that she could never forget her favourite person. Then with a final wave she left.

the tears came soon after, and hurrem could not help but think; was it worth it?
