OLIVER POV
It was 8PM, and I was playing Minecraft.
"I'm bored," Lilly said, entering my room.
"Come look at my world," I said.
I showed her the mansion I built, while she told me about her day, and the gossip in her friend group. Lilly typically hung out with the popular crowd. My friends and I weren't unpopular, but not considered popular either.
After showing Lilly how to actually play the game, I went to bed and got ready for the next day.
—
Kate and I walked into the cafeteria together. I looked for Dylan, who was sitting at a table with Alex, another guy on the baseball team. He was already sitting with the popular crowd.
I nudged Kate, whose jaw dropped.
"That boy is fucking beautiful," she said.
She was right.
We sat down with our friends at our usual table.
"They put something in these tater tots, I swear," Tyler said as we sat down.
I laughed.
"What? I'm not joking," Tyler added, "Try,"
He fed me a tater tot. Kate took a picture.I tried to not show how much I actually enjoyed it.
"Fine. You're right," I said, stealing the rest of his tater tots.
"Hey!" He added.
Kate laughed.
"Fine, I'll go get more," I said, getting up from my seat.
I walked up to the line. As I was waiting in line, I took the opportunity to look at Dylan again, who now had a girl sitting on the other side of him. I was gay, and even I could admit how gorgeous she was.
"Kid," the lunch lady said, "You gonna order?"
—
"She already expects us to know this?" Dylan asked, scratching his forehead.
Mrs. Thorpe had handed us a worksheet full of practice problems. Luckily, I'd already learned some while doing the SAT prep.
"I guess so," I said, filling in my worksheet.
"How do you know this stuff?" Dylan asked.
"I'm studying for the SAT," I said.
He looked at me, surprised.
Then, he looked like he got lost in a thought. Finally, he looked back at me.
"Would you," he said, biting his lip, "consider tutoring me?"
My heart started to beat fast. Tutor him? I thought about this for a second. It was hard being in the same room as him, but I couldn't resist. I had to say yes.
"Sure," I said, taking advantage of the opportunity.
Maybe this would help me get over my stupid crush. This would finally prove that he was straight, and then I could move on.
"What about tomorrow?" He asked me. He was so nonchalant it scared me.
"Yeah," I said. I couldn't help but smile.
After class was over, I walked over to Kate.
"Guess who's Dylan's new chem tutor?" I asked.
"No fucking way," Kate said, jaw dropped.
