On Saturday, I woke up to a couple texts.
Kate
That boy lovessss youuuuuDylan
Thanks for yesterday, I wasn't really feeling my bestI smiled at both of those texts.
I responded to Kate.
Yeah yeah. WhateverAnd to Dylan.
Of course. It was fun. I think Tyler was happy to actually have someone to watch the game withI put my phone down and went downstairs.
I wasn't sure what I'd do today.
I started to boil some water. I looked out the window over the sink while I waited for it to boil. It was really pretty out.My oatmeal and coffee were ready.
I heard my mom unlocking the door. She had just gotten home from working a night shift.
"Hi sweetie," she said, putting her purse down on the island."Hi," I said.
"What're you up to today?" She asked.
"I'm not sure," I said, "Lilly's at Sarah's, and I feel like I have to do something because of how nice it is outside,"
She laughed, "Go to the park. You can bring Elle,"
"Right...," I said, "You know, I'll ask Kate instead. That way you can enjoy Elle today," I said, laughing.
She laughed, "Oh Ollie,"
I went upstairs to go grab my phone and text Kate. But when I opened my phone, I saw that I had two texts from Dylan.
HAHA
The other text was sent a few minutes after that.
Do you wanna hang out today?
Okay, so maybe I wouldn't hang out with Kate today. I'm sure she wouldn't mind.
It's not like she knew.I texted him to meet me at the park in an hour.
I tapped my fingers nervously on my steering wheel as I drove over. I pulled into the parking lot and saw Dylan standing in front of the sign, on his phone.
He looked really cute, his tall body in hoodie and a puffer jacket on top.I closed my car door. He looked up and waved.
"Hey," he said."Hi," I said.
"So the park?" He asked. I laughed.
"My mom's idea," I said.
"Ah," he said.
We walked around the beautiful gardens. It really was a pretty day. We looked at all the flowers, stopping every few minutes. I watched Dylan's eyes light up as he saw the pretty flowers.
As we walked, I couldn't help but ask.
"So, everything good with you and Lauren now?" I asked. I looked at him, hoping for some answers about their relationship."Yeah," he said, putting his hands in his pocket, "We've just been getting in these stupid little fights lately,"
"About what?"
"Like, I don't know. I just feel like something's off," he said.
Huh.
"Well, at least it's better now right?" I asked.
"Yeah," he said, looking down.
This guy confused me. I knew that wasn't all, but I also could tell he didn't want to talk about it anymore.
"What about you?" He asked me suddenly.
"What about me?" I asked.
"Do you like anyone?" He asked, playing with his thumb.
This question threw me off guard.
"Uh, not really," I panicked. If he asked me who, I just know that I wouldn't be able to lie to his face.
"Have you ever been with anyone?" He asked, still not making eye contact with me.
"I dated this girl named Makayla in middle school. We were very serious," I said, "I waited for her at her locker and put her initials in my Instagram bio," I teased.
He laughed at that, "But no one else?"
"Nope," I said. I looked down at my converse. "I guess people just don't see me like that,"
I'll admit that I was fishing for complements. So what. He was so confusing, I deserved it."Oh come Oliver. It's not like you're unattractive," he said, avoiding eye contact with me, "You're really not unattractive,"
What the fuck?
Is this what normal straight guys say to their other "straight" friends?"Then I don't know," I said.
It's because I'm gay.
I wanted to say.The trail led us to the parking lot. So, we parted ways, and I left more confused as ever.
