OLIVER POV

"He what?" I asked Kate in shock.

"She would not stop talking about it in English this morning," Kate said.

Apparently, Dylan had finally asked out Lauren. I was so disappointed, but I tried to not let it show.

"I'm sorry Oliver," she said, "I don't understand. After last night, I was so sure he was into you,"

"It's okay! Really," I said, "That's why I prepared myself for this,"

Even though I thought I had prepared myself, it still hurt.

Some notable things from the week:
- I'd planned on not talking to Dylan because of the Lauren thing — I failed when he drew little smiley faces in my notebook during Mrs. Thorpe's lectures
- Kate got a new job at coffee shop
- Tyler bought 10 boxes of girl scout cookies and brought them to lunch because "he felt too bad to say no"

"Do you wanna study later today? I don't have practice," Dylan asked me at the end of class.

"Sure," I said, "But we can't do my house or else my mom will make us watch Elle, and it's Lilly's turn,"

He sat there and thought for a second, which confused me.

"We can do mine then," he finally said, "I'll text you,"

When I pulled up to Dylan's house, I was in shock. I didn't even know houses this big existed where I lived. Dylan's house was massive. Ours wasn't tiny, but his was bigger than normal. It was modern, and it looked like one of those houses from the movies.

I was extremely nervous walking up to his gate. I hadn't even rang the buzzer yet when I saw him walking down the stairs of his front porch with a smile. He let me in.

"Come in," he said.

We walked into his house that was actually bigger than it looked — and that was saying something. It looked empty. And very lonely. I looked around for a family picture and only spotted one. His parents and his older brother, who looked like Dylan except with blond hair.

"Where are your parents?" I asked.

"Dad's working, mom's somewhere," he said, "Let's go to my room,"

Him saying that made me feel a way I wish it didn't.

Dylan's room had a jersey on the wall, which wasn't surprising. There were records and music posters all over the walls. It suddenly made more sense when I saw the piano in the corner.

"You have to play something now," I said.

He put his hands over his eyes and laughed, "Do I have to?"

"You told me you would play me something. It can be Fur Elise or whatever," I said.

"Fur Elise? Really?" He said, laughing.

"That's the only thing I know. Oh wait!" I said. I ran to take a seat at his piano. I started playing "Heart and Soul." I turned around to see him laughing.

"I only know that one part, but," I said.

He walked over and next to me. His legs were touching mine, and it was definitely the closest we'd ever been.

He started playing the other part and we played the song together and laughed when we were done.

After a few moments of silence on the piano bench, he started playing the beginning of "Je te laisserai de mots." I looked at him. This was one of my favorite songs.
