chapter 40 - the runway

"It's Sarah."

All the Pogues furrow their eyebrows in confusion and shock.

"She's with him?" Pope questions.

"Yeah." John B nods. He doesn't take his eyes off the runway, where Sarah stands with her father.

Sarah slowly walks towards her dad his workers, watching what they are doing closely. Confusion is written all over her face as she tries to figure out what is happening.

"Come on, Guys! Let's get this stuff loaded." Ward orders his workers, as they load many of large metal boxes onto the back of the plane. "Hey! Be careful with that."

"What's in the boxes?" Sarah questions as she walks up to her Dad.

"Uh, just some, uh..." Ward quickly speaks, then tries to think of an answer. "Decorative marble pieces that Rose found for properties down there. Antiques, I think."

Sarah immediately grows suspicious of her father and walks away from him. She walks over to one of the workers loading up her boxes and decides to ask him instead.

"Excuse me! Hi." Sarah calls out, making one of the workers turn around and look at her. Ward immediately follows after his daughter. "Uh.. what's in those crates?"

The man just ignores Sarah and turns around quickly, making Sarah mad and confused. Ward grabs onto his daughter and walks her the opposite way.

"No, uh.. excuse me!" Sarah exclaims with furrowed brows as she watches the worker just walk away from her. Sarah tried to get out of her father's grip as he turns her around, but she can't.

"Hey. Yeah, sorry. Hey, come on." Ward speaks to Sarah and pushes her the opposite way.

"What? I'm just asking questions." Sarah defends.

"I know, it's fine. Just get on the plane." Ward orders to his daughter.

"No! I-"

"Please get on the plane, all right? We have to get going."

"No, I changed my mind." Sarah shakes her head while walking away from Ward and to the car. "I'm going home."

All the workers start leaving once all the gold is packed. They all get into their cars and start driving away.

"Sarah. Sarah!"

"No. Excuse me! Hey!" Sarah begins talking to one of the workers again who is getting into his car, so she can leave. But Ward grabs onto her and Sarah screams out.

"No. No!" Sarah exclaims.

"Do not cause a scene. Do not cause a scene." Ward warns, starting to get frustrated with his daughter.

"No! Stop! Dad, stop!" Sarah speaks as she tries to get out of her Dads grip.

Sarah continues screaming as her Dad lifts her up off the ground. Sarah kicks her legs around and tries to escape.

"No! No! No!"

"Go! Get on this plane!"

John B stares through the binoculars at the two fighting on the runway. His eyebrows furrow and he fills with worry.

"Wait a minute..." John B speaks.

"No! No, I don't wanna go!" Sarah screams with tears running down her face. Her father holds her up and tries to walk her over to the plane.

"He's hurting her." John B states.

All the Pogues snap their heads to John B with shock and confusion.
