Ch 5

The next morning I have to wake up earlier than usual because I start my medical internship at the local hospital. Quickly getting out of bed I grab my black scrubs then rush to shower and get dressed I making sure to groom my ears and tail then brush my teeth my golden brown eyes staring back at my reflection. Once I'm finished I grab my phone and wallet then rush downstairs to the kitchen I skipping in with a cheerful "good morning!" My sister and her girlfriend wish me a good morning back I pouring myself some juice and look curious when I see a box on the table. Moving closer my sister's girlfriend Malia grins and hands the box over to me. "Here it's a present for your first day of being a medical intern." I blink then start undoing the ribbon on the box I taking the lid off and immediately stare at the black stethoscope I gently taking it out of the box and see my initials engraved in the metal part. I can't help but look at the two women in awe before I gently tackle them in a hug. "Thank you guys so much!" They hug me back and I carefully pull away I putting the stethoscope around my neck then check the time. "I gotta go."  They both nod giving me a good luck and Kira shouts out as I head for the front door. "Text me when your shifts over and I'll come pick you up!" I let her know I heard and I make my way to the hospital I taking a deep breath before I enter and head to the break rooms where I'm told the interns are going. I enter the break room where there's multiple people waiting around I seeing that I'm the only hybrid like usual. I go to stand in the back and everyone chats until the chief of surgery comes in a stern look on his face everyone immediately shutting up. "My name is doctor Kim and today you'll each be assigned a doctor to help. I expect nothing but good things from all of you. Now when I call your name come up and get your mentors name along with where you'll be located." He then goes to call out everyone's name mine of course being the last one because my last name starts with Y. I approach the chief and he tells me I'll be working in the emergency room for today under a man named doctor Chang. I nod and go to the emergency room where I immediately look around for any signs of a doctor when suddenly I pass by a slightly opened curtain only to immediately backtrack to see none other than Eric. Seeing how bored he looks I step in and clear my throat getting his attention. "I'm glad you're getting your knee looked at." He looks up at me before a smile crosses his face. "Hey! What brings you here? Are you okay?" I give a little reassuring nod smiling. "Yeah I'm fine. I just started my internship today actually. Have you been seen yet?" He gives me an impressed look before nodding. "Yeah I got my x rays and everything I'm just waiting for the doctor to come in and brace my knee." I perk up a little before saying softly. "Stay right here I'll be right back." Before he can say anything I'm leaving the room and look around before finally finding my new mentor I immediately making my way over. "Excuse me doctor Chang?" He turns and I'm immediately surprised by how young and attractive he is he seeming to be in his mid twenties. "Yes?" I give a slight shy smile. "I'm Yamamoto Lysander. I'm your new intern." He looks me over before nodding. "Alright where should I start you off at?" I immediately pipe up a little. "I can brace the knee in bay six." He looks surprised but nods giving me permission. "Sure considering that's a basic procedure to do." I nod smiling and grab the knee brace with some crutches along with Eric's file before heading back to Eric. He looks up when I enter and I set the crutches aside before putting the file down and I start undoing the brace. "Alright scoot all the way over to the edge of the bed and I'll show you how to do this." He nods doing as said and I kneel down lifting my tail out of the way so I can sit on my heels. I then start putting the brace around his knee and start doing it up until it's secure then get up. "There you go. And here's your crutches." He takes the crutches and gets up before hobbling around a little. I motion him over having him sign some forms then I give him a smile. "Well you're all set to leave." He gives me a smile back saying a little teasingly. "Thanks for taking care of me doc. Care to walk me out?" I blush a little but agree and we start heading to the door when suddenly I spot a very small fox hybrid child I noticing he looks lost and scared his clothes all ragged and torn he holding his arm against his chest. Frowning I immediately bypass Eric and head over to the boy saying gently. "Hey there are you okay?" He looks at me fearfully curling into himself against the wall I quickly saying in a soft voice making my ears twitch and tail sway. "Hey look I'm like you. See? I won't hurt you." He seems to give me a cautious look but slowly lifts his uninjured arm up and I smile softly gently picking him up being careful of his injured arm and settle him on my hip. I then notice Eric making his way over a worried look on his face. "Is he okay?" I give him a reassuring smile. "I don't know but I'll make sure he gets there." He nods and I look at the little boy seeing his little ears flattened. "What's your name little one?" He stays quiet and I frown but look at Eric. "I'm going to go check him in. Would you care to sit with him please? So he won't be alone and scared." Eric nods reassuring me he'll stay and I give him a thankful look. We then head over to the reception area where they assign the boy a room and put a little band on his wrist. I take him to the room he was assigned Eric following and I set the boy on the bed while Eric sits beside the bed. I smile and go to find doctor Chang when the little boy whines it coming out more like a weird sound I turning my head only for my expression to soften when I see him reaching for me. I gently step forward gently petting his ears then say reassuringly. "Don't worry I'll be right back. You'll be okay with Eric I promise." The boy seems to look at Eric and gives a little nod I smiling in relief before I start heading to find doctor Chang.
