You kissed both your babies before leaving for work, and kissed JJ once you were in the car together. She asked if you were okay, and you smiled and told her everything was perfect. She gave you another kiss, leaning over a little bit more and moving her hand from your thigh to your waist. "Whoa, there," you chuckled, pulling your mouth off of hers. "Later, sweetheart. We really do have to go to work now. But I love this energy,"

"Okay. Sorry," she chuckled. "Alright, let's go." You both buckled up, and she put the car in drive and pulled out. After a minute or two, JJ said, "Did I make you uncomfortable, or is it just not the right time? Because that is definitely true, but I want to know if there's more to it."

You grew more reassuring with each passing moment. "No, babe, we just really have to get going." You reached over and put your hand on her thigh. She shifted in her seat, and you pulled your hand away. She frowned, but didn't say anything. You put your hand back and asked, "Is this okay?"

She put her hand on top of yours. "Yeah," she breathed. "Great. So I didn't upset you?"

"Not at all. I'm beginning to feel ready to start doing things again. I'm sure you must be really excited about that," you chuckled a little.

"Well, yeah, of course, but your comfort comes first. You had a baby, sweetheart. You're still recovering; it takes a long time. Trust me, I know. Whenever you feel ready, however long that takes, is completely, one hundred percent okay with me. If that's today or months from now, I understand and respect that entirely. I love you the same no matter what. I love you so much,"

"I love you too, Jen. I don't want to lead you on; I don't think it'll be tonight. But I do want to talk more about it, and start doing more — slowly,"

"Of course. We'll go at your pace. I'm happy to do whatever makes you comfortable, even if that's doing nothing. I don't want you to feel like you owe me anything, because you never ever do. Okay?" You nodded. She smiled and said, "Good. I have very much enjoyed getting you to myself every once in a while lately. It's really important to keep the romance alive when you have kids. We've been doing pretty good at that, I'd say."

You nodded again and squeezed her thigh. "I think so, yeah," you chuckled. "Tonight after the kids are in bed, can we maybe talk about things? Just all of this. I want to kiss you, see how we're feeling about doing things."

JJ took one hand off the steering wheel and placed it on yours, which still rested on her leg. "Of course, babe. Is that what you want, or are you just saying it 'cause you think it's what I want?"

"No, I want to. I just want to take things slow, and I don't see why tonight would be a bad night to start," you said with a smile. JJ glanced over at you for the quickest moment and grinned as she looked back at the road.

You had lunch with Emily that day instead of JJ, and thanked her again for watching the kids. "Oh, god, it's no problem. And you really don't have to pay me. It's a favor,"

"Em, we are not letting you do unpaid labor for us, especially not something as important as this,"

"Fine, then. Regardless, you guys seemed really happy last night when you came home. JJ held your hand pretty much the entire time before I left. I'm glad you're getting out and having time just the two of you."

Later that same day, you made sure to finish everything before five o'clock, but JJ was caught up looking over a few more cases. You sat on the couch in her office without saying anything, and occupied yourself with something so she didn't feel rushed. Twenty minutes later, she was ready to go, so she took your hand with a smile and you both left the office.

Light chatter filled the car as you picked up Henry and got home to your daughter. The sitter left soon thereafter. You fed Amelia while JJ started making dinner. Henry asked you to read a book to him, but his mom told him to wait until after dinner, since Amelia needed her own dinner at the moment. He was bummed, but left the book on the couch and went to play with something else. After burping Amelia, you asked Henry if he wanted to hold her. He was always excited to play with her, so he wholeheartedly agreed.

This was the easiest way to occupy both of them until dinner time, and they both loved it, so you and JJ let him hold her often. Henry's sweet little voice telling his sister how much he loved her made your heart soar. You kissed his head and combed your fingers through his soft blond hair. After a while of quiet, Henry looked up at you with a grin and said, "Mama, thank you for giving me a sister."

JJ heard it too. Tears flooded your eyes, but you managed to keep them from falling. You kissed his head and told him, "You know how happy that makes me? That you love her so much?"

"I really, really, really love her!"

"You do? I love her too. And I love you! You're both my sweet babies, and Mommy's babies too,"

"But I'm not a baby, I'm big!" he protested.

"Oh, you're right, you are a big boy! But no matter how big you get, bud, you're always gonna be your parents' baby,"

"Daddy too?"

You laughed, "Yes, you're always gonna be Daddy's baby too. Even when you're all grown up,"

"Amelia's gonna be your baby forever too?"

"Of course. You both will."
