________________________________________About a week after that "Incident" Wally was sitting atop the bodega roof.
Howdy had found an old ladder in the back, and figured since the neighborhood was getting to dangerous for Wally to patrol, this was a safer option. Wally had been the only one going on patrols lately because he practically refused to let anyone else leave the safety of the bodega, as in going to far away from it.
Wally was sitting there, swinging his feet over the edge peacefully when he heard the sound of struggling behind him.
"Ogh- Oh! Gah!" A familiar grumble came from behind him.
Wally turned to see, as he'd guessed, Barnaby, struggling to climb the ladder to the roof. Finally the big pooch managed to stumble his way into the roof, landing with a: "Ugh!" in the process.
"Golly," Barnaby said, standing up and half heartedly brushing out his fur, "Well ain't I just too big for this?" he laughed.
Wally giggled slightly "You're so funny, Barn."
Barnaby blushed a bit before shaking it off and sitting down next to his beloved little buddy.
"Soooo.." Barnaby said, trying to postpone the question he had.
"So?" Wally repeated back to him in a curious tone, "Something on your mind?"
"It's just.." Barnaby started to say before pausing. "Do you actually have a plan?" he asked quietly.
Wally paused for a moment.
"We already have a plan, remember?" He muttered.
"No, that's not what I mean. I mean, like, if our plan works-"
"When." Wally interrupted.
"Right.. When our plan works.." Barnaby corrected, "What are we supposed to do after? I mean.. Does the black ink stuff die with Home? Does it just go away? How are we supposed to clean it up? Can we even live here anymore?"
Wally was taking in all these questions in silence before looking back at the terrifying circumstances their home was in.
"I don't know." he admitted quietly.
Barnaby's stomach twisted a little at the uncertainty in his voice, her ears dropping a bit.
"I really don't, but.." Wally stopped himself. "I know we'll figure it out." he muttered, the permanent smile on his face seeming a little more genuine now.
That made Barnaby smile a bit. The knot in his stomach loosened and his tail wagged just a bit. Her slowly, and carefully, placed his big paw over Wally's small hand.
Wally chuckled a little.
Barnaby smiled and squeezed Wally's hand gently.
_________________________________________Wally was back inside, peacefully sitting on the couch doodling while Howdy and Poppy worked on Lunch.
"Watcha drawin'?" Julie perked up, asking Wally in her normal high pitched, excited tone of voice.
"Nothing specific." Wally said calmly, continuing to draw.
"Can I see?" Julie chirped.
"Uhhhhh-" Wally hesitated.
She immediately pulled back a little, "You don't gotta show me." she said calmly.
"No- It's.. It's fine." He muttered, turning the notepad to her.
