Gael's POV
I am on my way to my last conference before the school term starts, I am one of the speakers on the said event. I parked my Audi at the designated parking lot and went inside.
"Professor Monroe" someone called me, I turned my head over my shoulder and saw it is two students and based on their lanyard they are both studying in NYU
"Good morning ladies" I greeted them, conference like this students who are studying Sociology have the opportunity to meet and greet some of the authors of their textbooks, some notable sociologist and a lot more.
I am one of the authors of one of the books in Sociology that most university students used all around the country. So no wonder some of the students know about me.
"It is quite an honor to meet you professor, we've been reading your book and it help us a lot on our research" the petite one said battling her lashes
"That's good then" I curtly replied, then the two looked at one another
"Can we take a picture professor?" They asked, I really don't like taking pictures with strangers so I politely declined and went inside the venue. I checked my watch and it is five minutes before nine o'clock, I am going to be the second speaker and I decided after my talk I am going to go home, I need to draft something in time for the new school term starts.
The hall is already full and I greeted familiar faces along the way as I take my seat at the front, the stage just near it that I can see everybody up there. I read on the program list and there are three dances that will be presented.
I was surprised that there will be a dance number into this conference, the organizer might wanted to do something out of the normal and boring conferences, which is appropriate on the theme I supposed.
The conference started and Daniel Watkins is the first speaker, I know Daniel to be a dick, arrogant and narcissist , so no wonder when he talked about his topic, it is all about him.
He continue to talk for a good hour, and I am already being impatient for my turn that I tapped my feet on the floor.
"Thank you everyone and have a nice day" he said finally ending his talk, my name was called on stage, my topic is about Deviant Sexually Acts. I faced my audience and held my hands in order for them to stop clapping now.
"Good morning, we all know that in sociology, 'deviance' is defined as straying from the accepted norm. In the context of sociology, "norm" refers to what the culture considers to be acceptable behavior" I started my speech and I immediately get the attention of everyone, I continue to talk about my topic giving example of some deviant acts before focusing on the deviant sexually acts.
"Sexually aberrant behavior can result in severe stigmatization and discrimination from the general public. This can take many different forms, such as physical assault, social exclusion or mockery, discrimination at work or in the classroom, and more. A large portion of this stigma stems from firmly held religious or cultural views, as well as from how specific sexual activities are portrayed in the media and other cultural products. Sexually deviant behavior can have a serious negative effect on a person's mental health and general wellness due to this stigma" I said and people clapped. I smiled because I could see that most of the people can relate to my topic, I wonder if they have the same lifestyle as mine.
Then after a few more minutes I ended my speech, everyone stand up and clapped once more, okay my work here is done, but I need to give a handshake to my fellow speakers and guests, the host announced that there will be a dance number first before the next speaker will share her ideas.
