"Sam the write up you submitted about deviant things under age teenagers do is brilliant where did you get the statistics?" Eugene asked me sticking his head out from his cubicle giving me a thumbs up"I attended this Sociology Seminar in Manhattan and they gave the numbers, I was surprised as the statistics as well so I made a research about that, and it matches the theme for our next month issue" I smile at Eugene
"That's great, the editor in chief wanted to include your article for the final cut" he smiles at me, my eyes widen as his news
"Oh! Really?!" I exclaimed, my first article on a magazine that will be brilliant!
"Congratulations! Keep up the good work, who knows one day we can absorb you!" Eugene said, I smile and continue to work on my task. Then after which I prepared for my meeting with Uncle Louis, I drive my way to the restaurant he told me
"Uhm reservation for Louis Reeves?" I asked the receptionist she then lead me into the side of the restaurant, where I could see Uncle Louis is waiting for me now. He smiled when he saw me.
"Thank you" I said to the receptionist
"Hello Sam, you're really really so pretty, how many years we did not see each other?" He asked
"Uhm eight years? I really can't remember you just went poof! Gone!" I told him, he chuckled and called the waiter, we ordered then went back reminiscing the past
"What are you taking up?" He asked when our food arrived
"Journalism I am currently an intern at NYC Publishing Inc"
"Wow! I graduated Journalism as well Sam!" He exclaimed. Oh wow! I thought I am the only one in the family who is interesting in Journalism
"Really?! Wow I never knew"
"I know right? NYC Publishing Inc is one of the subsidiaries of my company" he said smiling
"You own a company?!" I choked on my food. Just wow! There are lot of things that I don't know with the youngest brother of my father
"Yeah, LRV Publishing Inc" he smiles
"You do?! That's the biggest publishing company in the state!" Hell uncle Louis are far more richer than all of my father siblings combined! But they treat him as if he is nothing, as if he did not accomplished anything!
"If you want I can talk to the manager in NYC to give you a permanent job after graduation" he smiles, I looked at him I know he means well but I really don't like to enter a company because I got the easy way
"That's okay, I wanted flexibility. Work life balance, so I prefer to do remote works and work from home"
"I understand after all that's the trend now" he smile
"Yeah, and I wanted to be an author" I smile at him
"Really? That's amazing Sam, your parents will be proud of you!" He said
"No they don't" I laughed, he looked at me a quizzically.
"What do you mean?" He asked. I took a deep breath and told him everything, on how they were never been proud of my accomplishments, that since I did not graduated top of my class they look at me differently, I shared to him the endless comparison with my cousins and just recently I told him they wanted me to shift majors.
"They never changed" he said shaking his head
"You know I am glad I have you, it is like a breath of fresh air having a family that will not judge you" I smiled at him, he softly smile and nods at me as we continue to eat our food.
