Broken Promises - SPN 4

Chapter 4 - Metamorphosis

Dean opened the door that led to Sam. Sam stopped in his tracks as he was helping a man up. Dean looked pissed and I just had a blank face.

"So... Anything you wanna tell me, Sam?" Dean said. Sam looked innocent and Ruby stood behind him, just watching Dean. Dean walked toward him as he talked.

"Dean, hold on, okay? Just let me-" Sam started.

"You gonna say, 'let me explain'? You're gonna explain this? How about this? Why don't you start with who she is, and what the hell is she doing here?" Dean seethed. He looked at him hard, Sam turned back and looked at Ruby who looked completely calm, and even smiled as she responded to Dean.

"It's good to see you again, Dean." she said.

"Ruby?" I asked. She smiled a little as Dean looked at Sam.

"Is that Ruby?" Dean asked Sam. Sam didn't respond and Dean looked over at Ruby again, who's smile was fading. After a moment, Dean grabbed hold of her and shoved her up against the wall. He pulled out her knife and as he was about to strike, Sam grabbed his hand.

"Don't!" Sam said. They struggled for the knife. Sam got it out of Dean's hand into his own, just as Dean threw him up against the wall. Ruby grabbed Dean and pinned him up against the wall he had her against seconds earlier. I ran at her and tried to pull her away but she kicked me in the stomach and knocked the breath out of me. I fell back, gasping for air.

"Ruby! Stop it!" Sam yelled as he looked at me and his brother. She just stared into Dean's eyes and she kept a chokehold with her right hand, and he stared right back, angry. Finally she let go and he rose up to his full height. He looks over at Sam and then back at Ruby. He pushed past her and checked on me. I was wheezing at this point but ok, so he helped me up.

"Well, aren't you an obedient little bitch?" I said. She didn't reaspond but I could see the anger in her eyes as she held herself back.

"Ruby." Sam said. She stared at Dean and I for a few more moments before looking at Dean. "Ruby, he's hurt." He indicated the man who was possessed earlier. "Go."

She gave Dean and I one more look and then turned and walked over to the man, and as Dean watched her, she puts the mans arm over her shoulder, ready to take him out.

"Where the hell do you think you're going?" Dean asked.

"The ER... unless you want to go another round first." Ruby said. Dean didn't say anything and she walked out with the man. We turned to look at Sam, who was watching us. I just walked out the door.

"Ali!" he called.

"Dean." Sam said. Dean walked out a few moments after me.

"Dean!" Sam yelled.

Dean and I pulled back into the motel parking lot. We walked into our room and saw Sam sitting at the table. I made eye contact with him then turned away. He stood up. Dean and I started packing as Sam walked over to Dean.

"Guys, what are you doing?" Sam asked. We both ignored him. He knew we were both angry and I knew if I spoke then I would say something I regret.

"What, are you, are you leaving?" Sam asked.

"You don't need us. You and Ruby go fight demons." Dean said as he grabbed his bag and started for the door as I followed close behind. Sam stood in the way so we has to go around him.

"Hold on. Dean, come on, man." Sam said. Dean turned around and punched him in the face with his right hand, which I had to jump out of the way for. Sam whirled around by the force. Dean just watched him as he turned back around to us.
