"This is a demonstration about demons and angels, love and lust" some street performer said as we walked up.
"What a douchebag." Dean said.
"all that stuff mixed up in my head." he said.
"That's Jeb Dexter." Sam said.
"I don't even want to know how you know that." Dean said.
"He's famous, kind of." Sam said.
"but whatever happens, no matter how" Jeb said.
"For what? Douchebaggery?" Dean said.
"messed up it gets, don't touch me, okay? For your own safety." Jeb continued.
He inhaled then exhaled. He started shaking his head then imitated something like a seizure. He makes the cards go flying and one sticks to the inside of the window of the shop behind him.
"Go back to hell, demon!" he yelled. The card was an ace of diamonds.
"Is this your card?" Jeb asked. There was applause.
"You've got to be kidding me. A fake demon possession?" Dean said. He started walking away and Sam and I followed.
"I can't believe people actually fall for that crap." Dean said.
"It's not all crap." Sam said.
"What part of that was not a steaming pile of BS?" Dean asked.
"Okay, that was crap, but that's not all magicians. It takes skill." Sam said.
"Oh, right, right, I forgot. You were actually into this stuff, weren't you?" Dean said to Sam.
"Leave him alone." I said.
"I mean, you had, you had, like a deck of cards and a wand." Dean said, ignoring me.
"Dude, I was thirteen. It was a phase." Sam said.
"Just-it bugs me. You know, playing at demons and, and magic, when the real thing will kill you bloody." Dean said.
"Like a guy who drops dead of ten stab wounds-" I said.
"-without a single tear in his shirt?" Sam said.
"That's what I'm talking about." Dean said.
We went to Vances room with his assistant.
"So did your boss have any enemies that you know of?" I asked.
"Vance had plenty of enemies." she said and leaned down and grabbed some tied together handkerchief.
"How so?" Sam asked.
"He would steal from other magicians. All the time." she said.
"What would he steal?" I asked.
"Stage effects, closeup techniques, anything he could get his hands on." she said.
"Is that enough to get him killed?" Dean asked.
"These guys take this stuff pretty seriously." she said while moving a cloth off a white rabbit. "There you are." She bent down to pet and pick up the rabbit.
"Did you find anything weird in Vance's stuff? Well, weirder?" Dean asked.
"Matter of fact, I did." she said. She put the bunny in a bag and pulled out a Rider-White tarot card. The image was ten swords sticking out of a man's back.
"I'm guessing this didn't belong to Vance." I asked.
"He hated card tricks. Never wanted them around. Let alone in his precious cape." she said. She handed the card to Sam and he looked at both sides of it. It was perfectly ordinary.
