The Doctor strolled quickly to the console, pulling at various levers and switches. Laura liked Rose. She was human, just like her, and Laura felt that they would have been friends under different circumstances. The way that she handled herself after seeing mannequins come after her was nothing short of impressive.
To be completely fair, she didn't know that they weren't people and were plastic creatures at the time, and even when she found out later she could have been in shock,
but no matter.
It would be nice to have another human around...
Now that was an idea. Three people, two humans and one Doctor inside of an infinite spaceship just adventuring around the universe for all time.
Hold on, that wasn't a bad idea, really it could work. It would be nice to have someone from the same species around. The Doctor was such an egomaniac when it came to talking to Laura about humans, he would always list all the ways that Time Lords were far superior, 'But if course this doesn't include you Red, your special,' he would tell her.
Before Laura could think any further she all of a sudden got a rush of dizziness. She felt like there was this pressure in her head, right behind her forehead. She held a hand to it as she took a rather forceful sit on the jump seat. The Doctor noticed right away and kept an eye on her, sometimes she got a little dizzy but that was all, but only sometimes was something more serious.
He tried to get her to eat and drink more water but it didn't seem to help with the random spells. He got even more concerned when he watched as Laura's face lost all of its colour and she sunk a little further into the seat. He rushed over to her and kneeled down. "What is it, Red?" The Doctor was concerned for his companion. He placed his hand on her face and gently pulled her to face him. "What are you seeing?"
The first time the Doctor saw this happen they were at a party on Mars, celebrating the president's 115th birthday. When they all toasted the celebration Laura told the Doctor that she was feeling rather dizzy, he was reasonably concerned so he helped her up and went to take her elsewhere when her eyes glazed over and she marched herself to the president and knocked the drink out of his hand.
They later found out, after they were imprisoned for assaulting the president of course, that the drink had been poisoned. When the Doctor asked Laura how she knew, she said that she saw him drink it and saw him die, then when she blinked it was like she went back in time, before anything had happened.
The Doctor figured that spending a lot of time floating in the time vortex was bound to have some effect on her, and he guessed this was it. Since then he knew that when her eyes glaze over like this, she was seeing something. Something important.
Her eyes rolled back and she fell limp for a moment. The Doctor quickly caught her and gently crouched to the ground to set her down. He held her head on his shoulder and waited till she woke up. Holding her hand, he felt her give his hand two squeezed, He squeezed hers in reply. Then her head came off his shoulder after another moment.
She looked around confused for a moment, then her eyes found the Doctor's face. He gave her a reassuring grin and she smiled back at him.
"Rose, its Rose. The blond girl, we have to go get her." She let go of the Doctor's hand and rested her palms on her cheeks. She tried to hide the blush that was crawling over her face and tinting her ears pink.
