"Please, you have to save her!" A voice pleaded desperately. "I failed her, I can't, I."  The voice choked out a sob. "They did something... I couldn't stop them."

A soft lullaby took over the dream as Laura opened her eyes. Blinking at the harsh light that poured out of her window and onto the redhead, almost making it look like her fiery hair and green eyes were glowing.

She stared at the ceiling trying to remember why the man was crying. She felt that she knew at some point, but she couldn't remember what had happened.

Damn dreams and how quickly they fade.

This is how her dreams went every night. Strange places. Strange creatures. Never the same sight twice. They felt like distinct planets, the strange horizons, but it would be impossible. No one can travel amongst the stars.

Most times these dreams were peaceful. These beautiful scenes contained swirling colours that she couldn't imagine, couldn't create. But they made an emotional impression on her, some exuded home-like feelings.

These were her favourite dreams, when she could pretend that these places were real. And that she could go anywhere other than the small town she lived in.

Unfortunately, in order to have beauty and peace there must be pain to keep the balance of all things.

Some nights, they were more often than she appreciated, the beautiful scenery would darken. The creatures would become hostile and she had to run.

She always seemed to be running.

So much so that in her life she felt like everything was too slow. So boring. Especially Sundays.

When she woke up she could never remember, just the faint imprint of the dream and the knowledge it contained in her mind.

It had been the topic of many discussions with her friends. They tried to get her to go to therapy but she was certain that she was fine. The dreams seemed like normal life to her. Like she had always had them.

They felt more life like then her life did. Every morning she would feel displaced for a few hours. Dissociating and daydreaming were constant for her. Which was not good for her job.

There was one constant in these dreams however, a man. A man whose face changed, but Laura always knew it was the same man. He had the same eyes in every face.

She would never forget those eyes.

Laura sighed and resigned to her fate that today was going to come whether she wanted it to or not. She couldn't pause time, even if she desperately wanted to. She rolled out of bed and stumbled to her closet. After putting on her trusty pair of scrubs she stumbled her way to the kitchen.

Sleepily rifling through the fridge and pantry and found nothing. She decided that a good cup of coffee was enough of a breakfast and headed off to work.

It seemed natural, like she was supposed to.
