Satya was practically famous for her signature look—a saree, every time, no matter the occasion. Krithika had poured over the tabloids, replayed her interview videos, and marveled at how Satya wore a saree like it was second nature. So, naturally, she decided to follow suit, hoping to make a good impression. But reality had hit hard the second she put it on. Turns out, draping a saree with Satya's effortless elegance was a whole different ball game. She'd already tripped twice just getting into the building, and between her shaky nerves and subpar saree-wrapping skills, walking felt like an obstacle course.

By some miracle, she managed to grab the chair and sink into it before Satya could catch on to her struggle. "Hello, ma'am," she said, placing her carefully prepared file on the desk. It contained all the skills and qualifications to prove she could be a valuable asset to their company.

Satya glanced at the file. "I'd rather hear about your skills than read your qualifications."

Krithika clung to the armrest like a lifeline. "Of course! I just brought it as a formality," she replied, trying to keep it cool. After all, everyone brought their file to an interview, right? "Especially as a fresher, I thought it might help me."

"No need to explain," Satya chuckled lightly. "I'm not accusing you of a crime."

Krithika flushed with embarrassment, realizing she'd gone straight into defensive mode. "Sorry, I... I just..." she fumbled, words slipping out awkwardly.

"So," Satya cut in smoothly, "tell me why I should hire you as one of my Trainee Executives. And I mean besides the obvious—needing a job and paycheck to keep things running." Her eyes sparkled with a bit of mischief. "What do I gain by bringing you on board? Because let's face it, you're a fresh grad—probably the least experienced out of everyone I've seen today."

Krithika felt a flicker of intimidation at Satya's bluntness, but she kept her cool. "My internships and qualifications show I can handle this role," she replied, watching Satya's brows rise ever so slightly. "I've worked in similar positions before, handling logistics and marketing hands-on, and I've been around business since I was a kid."

"You do realize this is a temporary role for six months, right? And out of all the trainees, only one will be offered a permanent contract in the Logistics Management Department." Satya tapped her pen thoughtfully on the desk. "If you don't get to be that person, what's your plan?"

Krithika opened her mouth to give the usual "Well, I'll continue to pursue my goals" response, but something in Satya's gaze made her pause. This wasn't just a surface-level question. Satya was digging deeper, looking past the usual answers, testing her resolve. She wasn't looking for some starry-eyed job seeker; she wanted to know what Krithika was made of. This wasn't the type of interview where inspirational quotes would earn her any points.

"I'd find another job," Krithika answered before she could overthink it, "and make sure you regret not hiring me."

Satya's eyes widened slightly, and she burst into laughter. "Vengeance over a job? Really?"

"No, I... I never said I'd try to beat your success. I just meant I'd work hard wherever I went and contribute to that organization's growth," Krithika replied politely. "Besides, who has time for petty revenge?"

"Hmm, I see..."

Krithika took a sip from the glass of water in front of her, feeling a little more at ease. This wasn't as difficult as she'd feared, and she felt unexpectedly comfortable talking to Satya. She was still a bit intimidated by her presence, but her nerves had calmed since Satya's laughter—though she wasn't entirely sure if it was amusement or something else.

Either way, Krithika decided to roll with it and brace herself for whatever Satya threw at her next.
