Mason's pov:
As I hung up the phone, I knew I had to do something. I wasn't going sit back and let them marry Lily off to their piece of shit son, not when I loved her.
Did I just say that out loud? I did didn't I? Well, it's true. I loved her. I have since the first day I saw her. She was standing in her yard holding my ball. And she was the prettiest thing I'd ever seen.
I stood there helpless yesterday, watching him take her away like that, knowing that she was terrified of him. I saw the tears in her eyes, the way she looked at me, pleading for me to help her. And I'm going to. I made her a promise and goddammit I'm going to keep it.
I have to. I have to save Lily. There is only one thing to do, I just hope she doesn't hate me for it.
I sat in the study for what seemed like hours searching through records and anything else I could find on the internet. There had to be something or somebody somewhere that knew where Lily came from.
All of my searches came up empty. The only thing to do was employ all of my family's resources. Lily still didn't know what my dad, and now I was a part of. Dad owned a financial cooperation called Cole Interprises. It was a legit business but masked a lot of our illegal dealings with mafia lords and other things. To most people, we are just a regular wealthy suburban family. That's how my dad wants to keep it. The less people know that my dad is a debt collector for the mafia, the better. That makes it easier if things go south, no one can trace it back to us, especially if they ask him for help with making someone disappear.
My dad is a very rich and very powerful man, and that's because our family has built an empire over the years. Dad uses Cole Interprises to help out a lot of charity organizations like Saint Jude Children Hospitals and the local homeless shelter. Last year alone he spent one hundred thousand dollars on a new furnace for the orphanage. So he is a very respected man in the public eye. He's not at all a monster like that bastard Robert Mahoney, He would never treat someone as innocent as Lily the way the Mahoney's have. One good thing about our line of work though is that we have alot of people on the inside who are ready and willing to do anything we ask them. Just as quick as we can make someone disappear we can also find people. Lots of kids have gone missing that we have found. We have brought down alot of trafficking rings over the years and because of that the police turn a blind eye to anything we are involved in.
As I wracked my brain trying to figure out what to do, there was a knock at the door. I looked up from the computer to see my dad standing in the door way.
"Everything ok son?" He asked.
I sighed. I had to ask my dad for help. I know Lily doesn't trust him but I do and I cant do this without him.
"Not really, no." I said.
"Anything I can help with?"
I stood up from the desk and walked around to meet my dad in the middle of the room.
"Actually, yeah." I said. "Do you remember me telling you about the girl I met named Lily, that the Mahoney's adopted about eleven years ago?"
"Sure, yeah, I saw her once when I went over there. She seemed like a sweet kid."
"Yeah, she is." I smiled. We have really gotten to know each other over the past several years and we have gotten....close." I said.
Dad gave me a knowing look.
"Close, huh?"
I nodded and put my hands in my pockets.
"Did something happen to her?" he asked.
"I found out they are abusing her dad, and now they are going to force her to marry Will once she turns eighteen."
"They have always been pieces of shit," dad said, shaking his head.
"I promised her I'd get her out of there. Can you help me dad?"
He thought for a minute.
"It's not gonna be easy the Mahoneys aren't a walk in the park." he said.
"I don't need easy, I need possible.
"How important is this girl to you?"
"I love her dad." I said looking him in the eye.
He nodded. "I see. Alright I'll help you, but you have to do things exactly how I say. The Mahoneys aren't stupid by any means, and they always have body guards with them when they go out."
"Sure, yeah. I'll do whatever you want. I just need her safe."
Dad shook his head.
"It's gonna take some time." He said.
"We may not have time. It's getting bad."
"How bad?"
"There have been threats on her life."
"That doesn't make any sense." Dad said, "The Mahoneys need her so William can get his inheritance, unless..." he stopped.
"Unless what?" I asked, worried.
Dad looked at me seriously.
"No, not yet. Let me do some investigating and then we can talk about that. There's no sense in getting worked up if it's not the case. I need you to be level headed." He said, his eyes darkened as he looked at me.
"I'll get a few of my men together to scope out their house over the next few days. See what we can find out and if anything goes down before we are ready I can have someone in that house in seconds. It's time to bring the Mahoneys down."
I nodded and listened as he told me his plans. I liked the idea of having some of our men close by. If I couldn't be there for her, then at least they could be, even if it was at a distance.
Dad and I spent the rest of the day putting together a small game plan that consisted of which men were to go set up shop around the Mahoneys place and what they were to do while they were there. We decided on Joeson, Kent And Riley. They were some of our best men and have been with our family since the beginning so we knew they were trust worthy. Once the men were made aware of the situation and what their assignment was, we sent them on their way.
It was getting late but I didn't care. I was determined to work endlessly to find a way to make sure Lily was safe again and I wouldn't rest until she was. If Will Mahoney wanted to play hard ball, well then it's game on. I had a promise to keep. I sat down at the computer and typed in the name of the orphanage Lily was sent to after her mom died, hoping to find something, anything about where she came from.
