Mason's Pov
I pulled up to the warehouse where they had brought Reed. My heart pounded in my chest.
I had to know why he abandoned Lily so many years ago. Why he'd allowed her to be adopted by such terrible people.
If he had known even an ounce of what they put her through he'd be sorry. I'd make sure he was!
I took a few deep breaths trying to calm mysel as I opened the roll up door. There he was, sitting in a chair blindfolded, hands tied behind his back and tape covering his mouth.
"Was this really necessary?" I asked looking between Joeson, Kent and Riley.
"Not really, no. But it was fun." Kent snorted.
I gave him a look that said I wasn't in the mood as I took the blindfold off of Reed. My breath caught in my chest as I looked into those familiar eyes that stared back at me in fear. I quickly ripped the tape off of his mouth.
"What's going on? Where am I?" Reed asked in a panicked tone.
"Calm down Mr. Watson. I just have a few questions to ask you." I explained.
"I'll answer whatever you want to know, just please don't hurt my family?" He begged.
"That's right you're a family." I said, walking in a circle around him.
"Yes, I am." Reed replied.
"Tell me, how important are they to you?"
"They're everything to me." He answered confused.
I stopped in front of him, eying him suspiciously for a second.
"Please, can someone tell me what this is about? Did something happen?" Reed said, looking at each one of us in fear.
"Do you know Cathrine Tate?" I asked him.
"Cathrine?" He said, blinking his eyes several times.
"I haven't seen her in years. What does she have to do with this?"
"She had a daughter almost seventeen years ago." I said.
I studied Reed as I revealed the information to him. His expression stunned at first and then he began to cry.
"It all makes sense now." He began.
"My Cathrine, that's why she broke up with me. I was in my senior year of highschool and had just got a full ride scholarship to Harvard. She must have thought a baby would mess everything up for me. Why would she think that? I loved her so much. I was devastated when she ended things."
"So you're telling me, you had no idea about Lily?" I said, surprised.
"Lily? Is that her name? I used to bring her Lilly's all the time when we were together. They were her favorites." He sniffed.
"I had no idea."
"Mr Watson, Lily is in trouble." I told him.
"What?" He said, jerking those familiar eyes up to meet mine.
"Sir, when her mom died, they couldn't find any family and so she became a ward of the state until she was adopted by the Mahoney's."
"She was adopted?" Reed repeated.
"Yes sir, but they are horrible people, they have made her life a living hell everyday since they brought her home. They've done.......despicable things to her." I explained.
"Oh my god." Reed cried. "What can I do?"
"We need to take some of your dna to see if it matches hers. I said. "Please Mr Watson, you're our only hope right now."
"Yes, of course. Whatever it takes I'll do it." Reed agreed.
"Thank you!" I said grateful he had agreed.
"Kent, untie him! You and Joeson, take him to the lab and have them get a dna sample! Tell them we need the results asap!" I ordered.
"Yes boss."
"Sure thing boss."
"Riley, meet me back at the cabin."
Riley nodded.
"Call me as soon as you guys find out." I said before leaving the warehouse and heading for my car.
I felt better after the meeting with Reed. He seemed to really have no idea about Lily and genuinely wanted to help.
That was better than the alternative. I hadn't wanted to get Lily's hopes up, just in case he did know about her. I couldnt tell her that, it'd break her heart, and I'd rather die than do that.
I smiled to myself as I pulled out into the highway. There was no doubt in my mind that Reed was her dad. He has those same green eyes that I have been staring into for the past two weeks.
I just hope the guys at the lab have their shit together today and get the results in quickly so that she can be safe again.
I dove deeper into my thoughts as I headed the towards the cabin. I couldn't wait to tell Lily about the meeting. Everything was going to work out according to our plans.
I pulled into the driveway and turned the engine off. As I got out of the car the little hairs stood up on the back of my head. Not a good sign.
I hurried up to the door and unlocked it, stepping inside.
"Lily." I called, looking around the living room and kitchen.
She wasn't in there.
"Lily?" I called again, and knocked on the bathroom door. There was no answer.
I swallowed hard as I made my way to her bedroom.
"Lily?" I said again as I opened the door to her room.
She was sitting on the floor next to her bed with her knees pulled up to her chest. She raised her head to look at me as I walked in
I could tell something had happened from the terrified look on her tear stained face.
"What happened." I asked, joining her on the floor.
"Are you alright?"
She held up a piece of paper as her hand trembled in fear.
"I found this." She whispered.
I took the paper from her growing angry as I read the message. I wadded the paper up and threw it across the room.
"He's not going to touch you!" I said as Lily began to cry.
"I'm so scared Mason."
"You don't have to be scared anymore Lily. I said. "I won't let him hurt you."
I wrapped my arms around her pulling her into a hug as she cried into my chest.
"It's ok, I've got you." I said, running my fingers through her hair as we sat there on the floor.
