Minho pulled into the driveway. Emily had been quiet on the way home, she answered his questions, but didn't try to make conversation. She sat with her head leaning back and watched the world go past.
"I'm sorry." Emily said quietly.
Minho could hear the tightness in her voice. He saw the disappointment on her face.
"What are you sorry for?" He asked. Turning the ignition off he reached over and gently took her hand.
"I ruin everything." She whispered, looking down at her lap.
"No Emily. You don't. You made tonight better. First time I had fun. First time I took a girl I actually really really REALLY like. First time I smiled at a school thing. Emily, you made it better."
He gave her hand a squeeze. He opened his door and came to her side, she hadn't moved, still staring at her lap. He opened her door.
"Come my fair Princess, popcorn and snuggled await." He made a big show with his flailing hand and bows. The corner of her mouth pulled up. He held her hand as they walked up the driveway and into the house. His parents were watching a movie in the living room when they came through the door.
"Minho?" His mom called.
"Yep, just us." He called back.
"You guys are home early, how co-" his mom stopped mid sentence when she saw Emily's demeanor.
Minho caught his mom's eye and subtly shook his head. Hoping she would get the hint.
"We're taking the party home for some popcorn, movies and quiet."
"Great! I'll help Emily out of that dress, and get started on popcorn."
"Thanks mom."
She nodded. He watched as his mom took Emily to her room to change. He sighed and went to his room to change. Hanging up the suit, and pulling on his plaid pajama pants and a white shirt. His mind was busy. He sat at the edge of his bed for a second. He still couldn't wrap his head around the fact that Emily had said yes. That he could actually call her his. His girlfriend. His stomach flip flopped when he thought of their first kiss.
The way she had froze, and then gasped. The way she melted. Everything about her made him love her; she was so innocent and sweet. And she made him feel alive with a wild fire but also feel calm and feel at home. Emily made him feel seen and valued, beyond his sports ability. She made him want to do better, be better. He wanted to protect her, he wanted to hold her a second longer, he wanted to kisser her again. He really truly did not care about being at that dance, he just wanted to be with her. Yes he liked being around people, but being here in his pj's with her was ever better.
He got up from his bed and went to find her. He poked his head around the corner into the kitchen, "she not out yet?"
"No. What happened at the dance?" His mom asked, as she grabbed the bowls and butter for popcorn.
"Stupid people. And then she stood up to Teresa... Then had a full blown panic attack. Took me and Newt to help her down. We decided to come home. She did amazing though mom. She was out! She danced, and smiled and laughed and was actually having fun. But ..stupid shucken people ways have to ruin everything. But. Whatever." Minho sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He took a deep breath and then slowly let it out. "I'm proud of her. We were there way longer then I expected. But after that panic attack, it took a lot out of her, she needed somewhere safe and familiar."
"I'm proud of you, son. Where you watching? I'll bring snacks when it's ready."
"Probably my room. And thanks mom."
