Emily stood alone in the middle of the dance floor as people circled around her in a blur of colours. She did her best to keep her panic rained in and shoved down. Her hands clasped together playing with her fingers.
There was a noise from the stage, the microphone turned on. The MC was back.
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen."
The crowd stopped their conversations and turned towards the stage and the podium. Emily felt her stomach twist. She knew Minho would be fine, but she was still nervous for him. Once the crowd was quiet and settled, the MC went on.
"We now have the opportunity to hear from the Captain and Starting Quarterback of Glade Academy. Please give a warm welcome to Minho Lee."
There was a polite round of applause and Minho stepped up to the podium. He had his signature smirk plastered on his face. How eyes swept the huge ball room.
"Thank you Ladies and Gentlemen for coming out to this fundraiser Gala Ball..."
He went on to thank the people of WICKED, for hosting the people who helped set up and decorate, the company who catered, all the universities and the scouts and reps he also thanked the school and all sports parents for their continued support of children's sports and dreams.
He had the crowd laughing the whole time. He had a way of keeping the crowd engaged and entertained without trying too hard. He told a few jokes and stories, why sports in school is important, why keeping all sports, not just football, funded.
Emily smiled and wanted Minho thrive up on the stage with the spot light with a few hundred people watching him. He wasn't using his notes anymore he had taken the pic from its holder and was now walking up and down the stage.
"Hey."
Emily looked around, Sonya had slid up beside her. She had a small smile on her face.
"Hey." Emily whispered back. Emily glanced around and then frowned. "Where's Gally?" Emily whispered .
"Said he would be right back. Dunno." She whispered back with a shrug.
Emily looked back to the stage. Minho was almost done. She was so proud of him. She could feel her chest warm with pride, and her cheeks were sore from smiling.
"...Now, there is one more person I want to thank. But there was no good way to thank her, so me and some friends-" Minho glanced to the side of the stage, and nodded.
"-It's also a little show of some of the other programs Glade Academy has to offer. The Music program at the school is phenomenal. And with that in mind...."
Minho had in buttoned his suit jacket, and layed it down on the podium. Emily frowned, she didn't know what he was up to.
"What's going on?" Sonya leaned over.
"No idea. This was never in his speech when he practiced." Emily shrugged.
Emily saw a bunch of guys walking into stage. Emily's eyes flicked back and forth. Minho picked up the mic stand and brought it to the middle of the stage.
"Everyone needs support and encouragement like what I had growing up. I wouldn't be where I am without the love and support of family and friends, they kept me going when I wanted to give up, they were my biggest fans, and I owe everything to my support system. Every kid needs a support system like I had, to encourage them and remind them why they are doing what they love, whether it's sports or music or something else."
By this time there was a full band behind Minho. Emily was so confused. Newt had a base guitar, there was someone from the music program on the drums. Another person on piano and Thomas had an acoustic guitar, Gally had electric guitar. Minho was rolling his sleeves up. Frypan was there as well.
