As you introduce yourself to the human in front of you, they stumble back a few paces. Despite your offer of a handshake, they don't take it; so, despondently, you lower your hand. It's not like you don't know their name, but it still would be appreciated if they'd return any sort of introduction, you're not sure why they're not.
..ah. Chara is glaring daggers at them. Maybe that's why they're acting so nervous. You turn to Chara and try to console them, but they don't seem to be having it.
"You let a random human mess around with our save files. Do you understand what kind of power they have now-?!"
Of course you understand, but they're speaking rhetorically. Neutrally, you tell Chara that this human might have died if you didn't help them, and they deserved at least another chance after returning to their body.Clover speaks, standing up a bit straighter and squaring their shoulders, but you can tell they're incredibly anxious under the faux confidence. "..where are we?"
You start to tell them that you're at a save file like it's obvious, but Chara's cynical look makes you remember that you're in a unique position when it comes to your powers in a timeline. Instead, you explain it very simply. Mid-word, Clover inadvertently cuts through; "This is like that power Flowey had. He'd bring me back after I died. It's what he told me." They pause. "I don't remember actually dying."Now Chara is interested, tilting their head and staring straight at Clover. "You know Flowey. Go figure, you were absorbed by him twice; Flower food. Do you remember shooting at Frisk?"
They're joking around as usual but it seems a bit mean spirited. Clover grits their teeth. "No."
>Interrupt
ObserveYou push between them and exclaim that it's all water under the bridge now. Clover eyes you, as if trying to connect your identity to their hazy memories, and Chara scoffs. "Frisk may forgive you, but I don't."
"I didn't want to shoot Frisk."
"Are you sure? Because offshoots from your power killed them several times."
Clover looks jarred, like they hadn't known any of this before. "No," They cut through, clearly not afraid to speak up for themself in this moment. "I didn't kill them at all! I've never killed anyone!" They continue. "Ask Ceroba, she-"As you go to ask who Ceroba is, you don't get the chance. Chara's already at Clover's side, and they sink their hand into their chest, abruptly yanking out their soul. Clover falls to their knees in shock, and Chara stares at the soul, almost crushing it underneath their fingers. However, they stop.
"..No EXP. I don't feel any more powerful."
You reach over to try to get them to stop, their actions having shocked you to your core. They swerve around so you can't reclaim the soul, but you grapple onto their back, the stick lost to the void. "Give me a minute, Frisk!!" They shout at you. You refuse, and continue to try to knock the bright yellow soul out of their grasp; if they're not careful, they might break it after all!!
"There's something wrong with this," Chara looks very hesitant to do so, but ends up kicking you off. From the floor, you glance over at Clover, whose fingers are over the hole in their chest. Their fiery spirit has been blown out, snuffed to the darkness, and look hollow, as if they're remembering something very unpleasant.
>Negotiate
AttackYou tell Chara that there's no way this person deserves to die at their hands, especially since they haven't hurt anyone!
"I'm not going to crush it!" They take the soul in both hands, shutting their eyes for a minute. "And clearly Clover's not dying."
"..give it back," Clover demands, voice raspy, and they stumble up to their feet. Chara stares over at them. "You shouldn't be able to move.."
