sunlight falls through the windows of the agency office, painting the surfaces of the desks and chairs. the curtains flutter in the light wind, and the noise of the traffic below reached the sharp ears of the elf.
they groaned lightly, cracking their eyes open. white silky hair pokes into their eyes, and they shift to roll over on the couch.
"looks like you're finally awake," a woman's voice sounded from around their legs, and the elf pushed themself up. the sun glared into their eyes, and they grumbled quietly before turning to look at the woman.
she was taller than them, of course, with a white dress shirt and a dark skirt. her hair was cut into a bob with a golden butterfly clip pinning some of it back, and she stood over them with her arms crossed. "just call me yosano," she said, holding a hand out to shake theirs. "are those ears real?"
the elf pulled their hand out from under a tan trench coat, meeting yosano's in the middle. their hands, yosano notes to herself, are so much smaller than mine. "they are," the elf replied, voice still laced with traces of fatigue.
yosano nods, pulling the elf out from under their makeshift blanket. the tan trench coat slipped off their legs, nearly falling to the floor had they not caught it in time. folding the coat neatly under their arms, drowsy eyes scanning the room they were in.
it looked to be an office of some sort, if they had made the right deduction. the idea of humans simply sitting at desks and chairs doing paperwork and using what their friend hand referred to as a "computer" didn't make much sense to them, but they suppose whatever humans did never would. although, they thought, green eyes flickering from human to human, the people here do look exactly like what he had described them to be.
"this is... the armed detective agency, correct?" they asked, softly pulling their hand out of yosano's. they finished looking around, glancing back at yosano. the doctor nodded, crossed her arms over her chest.
"got it. then i'll..." the elf turned around, heading towards the door. "... just go home now."
the doctor let out a sound of confusion, blanching as the elf really started walking towards the door. "you're not planning to make us let our guards down and then attack us, right?!"
the elf glanced over their shoulder, eyeing the doctor. "now why would i do that? i'm beat in a battle of numbers here. besides, even if i was more powerful than you guys combined, that doesn't mean anything to me. people will get hurt, and i wouldn't be able to travel far before being arrested." they turned back, and continued their way towards the door. "and even if i got arrested and escaped, i'd have to wait a couple hundred years before i can show myself to civilisation again. that sounds like a pain..."
they reached their hand out, twisting the doorknob.
"ah?" the door nearly swings into their face.
"oh, you're awake already." dazai swings the door open wider, stepping into the office. "were you planning on running home so soon?"
"of course," bright green eyes meet muddy red. a clash of the colour spectrum. "why would i stay in your agency?"
"because i'm here?" yosano almost facepalmed at the reply from the brown haired man, but all emotion that was revealed was the slight twitch in her eyebrow.
"but... why would i stay here for you? it just makes it more awkward," the elf raised an eyebrow. "besides, it's not like you're himmel either."
dazai's eyebrow twitched, and he let out a small tsk, looking to the side. ah, the elf realised. i haven't seen him in a while either. he probably just wants to spend some time together after these few weeks of no contact.
sighing, they bowed their head. "fine. i'll stay here a while." immediately, dazai's eyes brightened, and he glanced at them from the corner of his eye.
yosano raised an eyebrow at this interaction. this kid could read dazai almost immediately... and dazai acts a little more genuine with them than he does with kunikida and atsushi. her magenta eyes stared down the elf's back in wonder. just who is this kid?
the elf shivered, feeling the doctor's gaze on the back of their head. shaking their head slightly, red earrings swayed from the clips on their ear lobes, and they reached out their hand to pass dazai's coat back to said man.
"there's a cafe downstairs right? i'll go get something to eat. it feels like lunchtime already," the elf walked around the brown haired man, making their way downstairs.
shrugging, dazai pulled his tan coat back on and followed them downstairs, leaving yosano alone with the clerks in the main office. sighing, she turned around and went back to sorting out her papers. what a strange child...
