"well, what exactly should we do with the child now?" yosano asked, leaning against her desk as the blond detective slumped on the couch. when he came back up the stairs, he looked so out of it yosano thought he had been through metaphorical war and back, immediately falling down onto the couch in the office.
"i don't know, yosano-sensei," kunikida's voice is muffled, his face buried in the soft material. he can feel his glasses pressing into his face, but he's too tired to even bother removing them now. "i'm not afraid of many things but..." he recalled that sinister look on the elf's face when he questioned their age. "that child... they scare me."
yosano had to dig her nails into her palm to prevent herself from laughing out loud. her shoulders were still trembling, revealing her feelings to the other office workers.
tanizaki could only sigh as he watched the two senior detectives feel troubled over a single child. join the armed detective agency, they said. it'll be fun, they said.
"to be honest... we should probably just let her go," yosano said after a moment of silence. "they look pretty young, and it's not like they've done anything to harm people. the flowers are just different from the usual kind, but it's not like they're killing anyone either."
"... perhaps we were simply too paranoid about new ability users popping out of nowhere," kunikida added. but they're not even an ability user either. it really is just a momentary lapse of judgement.
"i'd usually say we ask ranpo what to do in this situation, but i feel like he'll just look at us and call us idiots," yosano sighed, turning around to go back to her paperwork.
kunikida flipped onto his back, green eyes staring at the office ceiling. although... he frowned again. what kind of non-ability user can make shields out of nothing?

blood red eyes clash against bright green, and the two furrow their brows. the other customers can feel the dangerous energy the two of them emit, and choose to look the other way to avoid any danger. after all, this is a common occurrence for any regular at this cafe.
the elf raises a hand, and the brown haired detective raises one in turn. both hands are fisted tightly, as if they're about to reach over the table separating them to punch each other. silence washes over the two of them, before they bring their hands down in one swift motion.
paper vs rock!
dazai groans as he melts into his seat, his face carrying an expression that looks as if his life force had been sucked out of him completely. his fist is still clenched, and he grumbles at the smug look on the elf's face and their open palm.
"fufu, it's your turn to pay the bill again~!" the elf chuckles picking up the tissue beside her empty plate to wipe her mouth daintily. the brown haired man whines fakely, reaching into his tan overcoat to pull out his wallet.
he stands, sniffling dramatically as he hands a few notes to the cashier before returning to the table. "this is illegal... you're literally extorting all my money for food..."
"we both know full well you're capable of winning against me if you actually wanted to," the elf stood up, signalling to dazai to follow. the detective follows her out of the cafe and to the streets outside, and the two are hit with the wind blowing across their faces lightly, and the sounds of traffic on the roads.
dazai remains silent, neither agreeing nor refuting what the elf said. the two of them stroll along the streets of yokohama in comfortable silence, heading back towards the flower shop together. the noises of modern civilisation fades away, replaced by the fresh scent of wildflowers and grass, along with the chirping of birds.
the two of them sat on the front steps of the little flower shop, staring into the large plane of flowers the elf recently magicked into existence.
a few minutes passed just like that, before dazai could feel a hand resting lightly on his head. fingers gently pressing down on the mop of brown hair, dragging themselves through the strands as his head sways from side to side at the motion.
the elf doesn't look at him as she continues to rub his head, green eyes focused on the field of flowers in front of her.
"i'm not a child anymore."
"to me, you're more like an infant than a child."
"... i'm all grown up now. you don't need to shield me from others anymore."
"if i don't do that, how could i even call myself your companion?"

hi guys i'm actually alive... ahaha...
I'M SORRY I DIDN'T UPDATE IN SO LONG HAJSDKAS so y'all get a double update this time
it's officially the chapter milestone i planned to start writing my bllk fic!! it's gonna take a while for me to actually start writing because my exam season is starting really soon. expect more updates during june period :)
anyways, i spent too long trying to figure out what word could describe the relationship between dazai and our dear mc. "partner" is between dazai and chuuya, and maybe even dazai and kunikida; dazai and mc don't share that sort of relationship. "parent" is too intimate; i can't see mc taking on the role of a parent just for a single human. "friend" is something reserved for dazai and oda only; dazai met mc after he met oda, so mc can't be called his friend either.
but in the end i finished the orv manhwa between the time i last posted and this chapter, and i started reading the novel too, so i ended up choosing "companion" haha. it's not something like whatever is going on between kdj and yjh, but i feel that "companion" is something that can be used between dazai and mc too
i'll drop off the grid for a while again, so see you guys next time !!
