dazai followed along as the small elf trotted down the stairs. his brown eyes trailed after the bobbing of the white ponytails on the back of their head, watching as the hair swayed back and forth. they look soft, he thought, fingers twitching in his coat pockets. i kind of want to touch them.
"ah, it's here right?" the elf's monotonous voice reached his ears, and dazai snapped out of his daze. tearing his eyes away from their hair, he looked up. the two of them had reached the cafe situated under the agency after going down several flights of stairs, and the familiar smell of freshly brewed coffee wafted in the air.
their stomach grumbled softly, causing them to lift a hand to cover the area in mild embarrassment. settling themself down at one of the seats, they beckoned dazai over with a wave of their hand, gesturing for him to sit down as well.
"is there anything you'd recommend from this cafe?" the elf asked, bowing their had slightly to thank the waitress who handed them a menu.
dazai let out a soft hum, fingers tugging on the bandages on his wrist out of reflex. based on their tastes... he made a move to pull the menu from their hands, and the elf automatically loosened their hold. "they have custard pudding here, if you're interested."
the elf blinked, lips stretching into a small smile. "you actually remember the stuff i say offhandedly? how sweet," they teased, corners of their eyes crinkling at the thought.
dazai grumbled under his breath, muttering something about how he should've just kept quiet. the waitress came back to their table, and the two gave their orders to her. bowing slightly, she went back to the counter.
"well, there's that. how should we proceed from here?" dazai faced the elf fully, leaning over the table slightly to rest his cheek on his raised palm.
they looked down at the table, green eyes carefully traced the lines of the wood. "there's not much we can do now, i suppose. your colleagues already know how i look like, and based on what you've told me about them, it's not like i can hide from that one detective of yours either. i'll just stay at the flower shop for now, until the situation somehow takes a turn for the worse."
dazai made a noise of understanding, looking deep in thought, and held back a small flinch when the waitress returned with their orders. the elf reached for the spoon in their plate of pudding, scooping a small bite of the dessert before bringing it to their lips.
"you were right," they whispered. "i am in the mood for custard pudding today."
dazai smiled back, bringing his cup of coffee to his lips.

a blond haired detective threw the door of the office on the fourth floor open, expecting to see a white haired child on the couch with a purple haired doctor watching over them, only to come face to face with no child, and a doctor working on her paperwork.
"oi, yosano-sensei, where the hell is that child we found earlier? and where the hell is dazai?!" he questioned the doctor who merely hummed at his words. she lifted up another piece of paper, eyes flitting between the words quickly.
"he took the child down to the cafe for some food, i guess."
the blond man's face was pulled into a frown, and he looked as if he wanted to pull his hair out.
"also, kunikida, if you keep frowning like that, you'll get wrinkles."
he smoothed out his expression.
"i'll go drag them back now." he stomped out of the office and back down the stairs.
"have fun trying, kunikida."

a shout of the brown haired detective's name echoed through the stairwell, reaching the ears of the elf and said detective in the cafe.
the man froze in his seat, the smile on his face becoming a little strained as the sound of the other man's shoes got louder. the elf watched as something flashed in those blood red eyes, and the grip on their spoon tightened.
"dazai..." they whispered, reaching their other hand out to hold his across the table. their hands were engulfed by his, but their thumb pressed down on the inside of his wrist lightly, drawing circles on the sensitive skin.
he bit back a shiver, collecting himself and pulling his hand out of theirs. "i'm fine."
"dazai! what on earth do you think you're–!" the blond finally reached the end of the stairwell, bursting into the cafe with a yell.
"ah, kunikida-kun! how kind of you to join us!" dazai cut him off, and turned to look at him with a close eyed smile.
green eyes flickered from the detective to the elf, and to the food on the table. kunikida shut them, and his fists trembled.
"didn't i tell you... to go write your report on our investigation?!" strong arms reached over to pull dazai up by his shirt collar, only to be blocked by hexagon-like shields. "what the hell–"
"what do you think you're trying to do to him?" kunikida turned to glare at the elf sitting across the table, one of their hands outstretched towards them, as if trying to grab something in the air. he could feel a shiver building in the bones of his spine, their green eyes clashing.
they might have been of similar shades, but for some reason...
their eyes are kinda scary, kunikida gulped, pulling his arms back. anyways, why the hell are they so defensive over this suicidal maniac anyways? it's not like he's their kid or something.
dazai cleared his throat, breaking the tension between them. "well, either way, it's nice of you to join us, kunikida-kun," he said with a clap of his hands. "it's time for the interrogation anyways."
