*Chapter 2*

*Matthew*

She was the Alpha's daughter. My mate was an Alpha, I thought to myself in shock. I fought with my wolf not to go over there and rip her out of the boy's arms. Mandy looked up, guilt filling my body. How did I get myself into this situation? There was Mandy, who I loved and had loved these past few years.

Then there was my mate, who I seemed to love more—so much more than I had expected or could have ever imagined I would.

What I felt for Alli was soul-shattering. I would never feel that way for Mandy or anyone; that admission was hard to swallow.

Anna sat Alli and Nick across from Mandy and me, and I struggled to keep my eyes off her and every move she made.

Macy sat to her left, watching me.

My heart was thumping so hard in my chest that I was sure everyone could hear it.

"So, Alli, I've missed you the last few days in class," I commented, trying to sound normal but desperately wanting to know where she had been.

"Oh, that's my fault," Anna said before Alli could respond.

"I had some things that Nick and Alli took care of for me," she answered quickly.

I hated knowing she was always with that boy, even outside school.

"Nick hasn't slept at home in days," Macy said smugly.

"Alli has not been feeling her best lately, and as the amazing boyfriend that I 'am, I couldn't let her deal with it alone," he said, his eyes meeting hers.

I balled my hands at my side, knowing he was taunting me and Macy was enjoying my reactions. As for my mate, she had yet to look up once.

"Let me guess," you bought these for her," Macy said.

"Guilty."He said, his eyes meeting mine defiantly.

"My Alli is lucky to have you, Nick," Her father said warmly.

"I know that you would protect our daughter with your life."

They all approved of this boy, and I wanted to make him disappear. He has something I desire so much so that my body ached with the need to touch her.

"Mathew, how are you taking to teaching again?" Alpha Mark inquired, my gaze going to him.

"I forgot how much I loved it. I'm glad that I got the chance to do it again." I answered honestly.

"Maybe you will think about staying on as needed," Mark said, smiling.

"I wish I could, but running a pack the size of mine takes all of my attention," I said, my gaze returning to Alli, who would always have my attention when she was in the room.

"Alli, is Nick your mate?" Mandy asked with a warm smile.

"You two are clearly in love, such a perfect couple." She beamed.

The water I had been drinking went down faster than it should have, causing me to cough, all eyes landing on me.

"Are you okay?" Mandy asked, her eyes worried.

"I'm fine. I don't know how to drink water correctly, I guess." I said, my eyes meeting Alli's.

She turned her attention to the boy, something inside of me stirring.

He smiled at her, his eyes shiny with love and adoration.

"No, Nick is not my mate," Alli answered Mandy's question.
