3rd person pov
the next morning, dorothea stood on the platform next to the train as she waited for the train to arrive and she turned to see coriolanus standing there right next to her and she turned to him and nodded. he nodded back and they began to walk to the spaces.
she saw lucy gray get out first and lucy gray made eye contact with her after treach helped her down and she looked at dorothea, ignoring coriolanus completely.
"doro" she said and she ran over as she hugged the girl and dorothea hugged her back taking in her scent with a smile and she sighed happily. lucy gray let out a sigh too as she pulled away and grabbed the girls face
"what are you doing here?" she asked her girlfriend and dorothea sighed as she felt coryos eyes burning into her back and she wanted to tell him to stop being weird and to stop staring but she didn't as she knew it would only caused trouble
"i needed to see you before this whole thing happened. I'm also a mentor for wovey so I'm here to see her and talk to her" she exclaimed
"mentor?" lucy gray asked and dorothea shook her head as she rested her forehead against lucy grays and they stared into each others eyes. they hadn't seen each other since dorothea was transferred into the capitol and that felt like forever ago
"everyone gets mentors for the games this year, coriolanus is your mentor and I am woveys mentor. speaking of i need to go find her but i promise i will find you again and we can have a talk later. i promise" dorothea told lucy gray who nodded and let go of her.
"shes right down there, be safe" lucy gray stated and dorothea nodded as she turned and walked away from the pair of them. she walked over to wovey and knelt down slowly as to not scare her or make her worry.
"hi wovey, its dorothea, do you remember me ? , im your mentor. im here to help you, you don't have to be scared of me. ill help you survive in there, or at least ill try" she exclaimed and wovey looked at the girl
"dorothea? you came? can you help me go home?" she asked and dorothea looked at coriolanus and lucy gray before she turned back to wovey and nodded her head.
"im going to try to" she said and with that she watched as the tributes got pushed ahead and moved with them. she held woveys hand and wovey looked at her as she nodded and walked with her. she watched coriolanus follow after them and she watched lucy gray walk ahead of them. she decided to do the same thing coriolanus did and they walked into the vehicle together as he walked to the back and she walked with him before she sat with wovey
"hi" corio said and dorothea scoffed. that's when they noticed her too but they didn't say anything because wovey looked comfortable and they all knew about dorothea and her past with the districts. it wasn't her choice to leave and they knew that
"whats the matter, pretty boy? you in the wrong cage?" reaper asked and dorothea looked at him
"no. this cage is delightful" corio stated and dorothea laid her head on the back of the wall as she looked at lucy gray who looked at her too.
"reaper killed a peacekeeper back in 11" dill offered
"i say we all kill him" someone offered
"yall got family back home? they'll kill them if you hurt him. then you. besides, he's my mentor. i might need him" lucy offered
"how come you get a mender?" coral asked
"mentor. you each get one. see, that's dorothea. the one youre ignoring, shes a mentor" corio said and they looked at her as she looked at them and sighed
"nice to see you guys again" she stated and they nodded at her. she was known for helping anyone in the districts so she knew everyone in this cage.
"we're just here to help you" corio told them and dorothea nodded
"he's right, you all get a mentor that's supposed to help you in the games, we're supposed to make sure you survive and make sure that nothing happens to you in there. our job is to protect you from the outside while you protect yourselves from the inside" dorothea said and then they heard a sound and the cage began to tilt. with this they all felt out of the cage together and into another one. with this, dorothea helped wovey up and she looked around at everyone outside. she knew her parents were watching and she was fucked.
"excuse me, hello sir and madam. who are you and why are you in there with them?" lucky called to them and coriolanus shared eye contact with dorothea as they walked forward
"wovey, will you come with me?" dorothea asked and they walked over to the cage wall as lucy and corio did the same thing together
"who are you sir and madam, why are you in the cage?" he asked
"hi, how do you do? my name is coriolanus snow, this is dorothea castieal and this is my tribute lucy gray baird. dorotheas tribute is wovey" coriolanus introduced the four of them
"hi there. whats your name?" lucy asked and then they focused on dorothea who was braiding woveys hair and rubbing her shoulders in a calming manner as they all watched. it seemed that they were siblings and they all admired them. dorothea knew that this would make people love them and she was honestly proud of herself for this.
soon enough, she was drug away with coriolanus but she looked at lucy gray and flicked her nose. lucy did the same, it was their own way of saying they loved each other.
and now dorothea and coriolanus were off to the school together
