Chapter Eight
either way she was losing
3rd person pov
when she woke up the next morning, she hated the odds of everything that was going to happen. she didn't want to lose wovey and she didn't want to lose lucy gray but she had to. she got dressed in her school outfit and she went to where everyone else was gathering. she joined arms with coriolanus as they walked into the room together and then heard dean behind them
"the friend of yours, plinth. You might want to find him a seat near the door." he told them and they walked down to floor together as they saw sejanus
"coryo, roth, how you doing? you all right?" he asked them and they nodded as she looked at coriolanus
"better" he said and they turned to the camera as all three of them smiled softly as he walked away
"better" sejanus said and they separated as dorothea walked to her seat and coriolanus walked to his.
"tell me this will be over quickly" another mentor said but dorothea shook her head. she knew it wouldn't be because it never was, ever since the game had started, they had always lasted for more than one night. She knew that as a mentor they would be sitting in there, watching the tributes fight for their life for at least one to two days, and there was nothing they could do about it.
Sure with some of the tributes they would be dead in two seconds due to the way that the other tributes were and the fact that they wanted to get out there quickly. However, that didn't help the case of how long it would last because there were still more tributes. there were still people who would run and hide and there were still people who would fight but fail.
Dorothea herself wish that it would be over, but she knew that in any case it never would be. she could only hope for the best and the fact that she would either lose her girlfriend or the kid she babysat her entire life, either way she was losing, and she had to face that sooner or later.
"here we go, here we go, everyone. come on, come on, lets go. sit down, festus, come on. Everyone as you know, we're about to go live. just because you're not hosting, doesn't mean you're off the hook. help me. Don't get lost behind your screens. No yawning, no gum, chewing keep your chins down, heads up, shoulders back , and smile its why we have teeth. okay. ready? We're gonna start, guys, five, four, three,two..." he began and he slowly spun to look at the camera making dorothea chuckle softly under her breathe
"good morning, I'm lucretius "lucky" flickerman. A man who needs no introduction. weatherman, amateur magician, and today, I'm honored to say first ever host of the hunger games. In my hand, an envelope, sealed. My prediction, the winner to be opened by me upon the big shows end. well, well, they're here. we're starting, everyone, we're starting. happy hunger games, happy hunger, remember, when your tribute dies, get out of here" he said and they all watched the screen as they saw their tributes walking in and dorothea held her breathe as she watched wovey grab lucy grays and and then they were separated.
the way wovey looked so innocent next to everyone made dorothea angry at it all but she wouldn't say anything about it just yet. she couldn't or she would regret it for the rest of her life.
"stand on your mark or you will be shot" they heard the peacekeeper tell lucy gray and dorothea shook her head as she saw them behind led to their spots and the tributes all looked at each other. the heard coughing and horrible sounds before the camera paned to something and dorothea coughed out of shock. there he was, Marcus. the one who supposedly got away but it was clear that he hadn't.
"Ooh! marcus. Guess we can all sleep better now, knowing he's off the streets." lucky said and with that, sejanus threw his chair and he stood up. dorothea jumped and she wanted to stand up and walk out with him but she couldn't.
" you're monsters! all of you!" sejanus yelled and he walked out making dorothea stand up and try to follow him but coriolanus put his hand on her hand and shook his head.
"I have to make sure he's OK Coriolanus I can't just..." she tried but she was cut off
"there's nothing you can do Dorothea the games are starting" he told her in a monotone voice and she scoffed as she sat back down and she looked around. The students all stared at each each other wondering if one of them would at least try to go after him, but it was clear that they wouldn't not the way Dorothea wanted to.
She thought about the fact that that could've been wovey or it could've been any other tribute and yet no one cared. yes Marcus was district. And yes he ran away but that doesn't mean that he should've been put up like Jesus and made out to be something that he wasn't.
When he got out of there, he was thinking about the fact that he wouldn't have to live through the games, and he could just die in a way that would make him sterile. He was put on a pedestal for everyone to see and make something out of him. She understood why sejanus was mad because she was too, but there was nothing they could do about that.
She just had to watch the games and hoped that one of the people she wanted to survive would.
But that's what hope is for right
